Pet care experience

Rover takes 20%, pls consider a tip

I recently moved from Northgate to Shoreline so that I can have a fenced yard! People look at my profile and don’t realize I’m 40 years old. I own my home and love boarding dogs. With experience ranging from foster-cat-mom through PAWS to dog-sitting for friends and family for years, while having my own dog (and caged pets), I decided to expand to Rover about a year ago. Living with my two teenagers, there is often someone at home to play with and snuggle guest dogs. We have years of experience helping friends by boarding or fostering their dogs. We branched out our skills to Rover this year, and treat each visiting dog as our own. Current pets include a 5 yr old male dog (Max), 3-yr-old ball Python snake, and 3 rats (the snake and rats live at my co-parent’s home). My two teenagers tag-team with me to help care for pets when appropriate. Previous family pets have included ferrets, hamster, birds, and fish. I have practice at caring for various species and am a quick learner. I regularly care for friends’ cats, dogs, and caged animals when they travel. I work out of the home as a nurse from 8 am - 8 pm Monday/Wednesday/Thursday and coordinate with my teens in caring for pets when I’m working out of the home (previously in the ER, now in a surgical procedure unit).

Emily was great! Walnut clearly had a great time. Emily was responsive, flexible with some unknown/changing pickup and drop-off times, and kept us up to date with cute photos and videos!

Emily is the best dog sitter! Moka has stayed with her for over a year now and every time she’s extremely happy to see Emily. Emily sends cute pictures frequently and is very responsive. Thank you for taking such good care of Moka!! 💓

Drop-In Visits • Jul 13, 2025

Unfortunately first time having Emily come by and a lot went wrong, not okay! We came home a few hours after she had a drop in at our home and our back door was WIDE open…. she clearly didn’t lockup or close the door fully so our dog was left to possibly run off. thankfully our yard is mostly fenced but this could have been much worse and I’ve never once had this experience with a Rover. We also had left a note right next to the entrance with his dinner bowl, a thank you, the usual. His dinner was not given to him, and he clearly wasn’t walked, only let outside during the drop in. Not sure what happened here but clearly she was not paying any attention.

Schedule

My two teenagers and I coordinate pet care, which allows us to have a somewhat flexible schedule as they can help care for pets after school, evenings, and weekends on the three days out of each week when I work out of the home. The longest period of time pets are left alone is 5 hours, which occurs on days I work out of the home.

Safety, trust & environment

I always have dogs on leashes when out and about, and will keep dogs on leashes in new homes, giving training treats when appropriate when I see their bodies relax in the new space. I have separate rooms as well as a crate for pets who need to be separated or introduced slowly.

Pets

A typical day

I start each boarding experience by introducing the dogs slowly in a fenced area, with dogs in leashes if necessary . This gets us acquainted with each other and gives them a chance to experience the smells close to the home. Then, I introduce them to the inside space slowly, offering treats. I keep toys and bones put away to avoid conflict between dogs. There is lots of space to rest and get comfy. I spend a lot of time in the home cuddling and playing with the dogs, and spend a lot of time outside with them in our large fenced backyard.

It’s important for me to be informed of each pet’s physical needs, things that might agitate them, or specific instructions for keeping them safe and happy. The more details about a pet’s care, the safer we can be.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
