Hi! I’m Emily, a lifelong animal lover with 9 years of experience working in veterinary medicine and over 10 years of experience volunteering with animals. I’m comfortable caring for dogs and cats of all ages, including seniors and shy or nervous pets. I also have lots of hands-on experience with fostering and understand how important patience, routine and getting to know each animal as an individual can be. I’m happy to follow your pet’s usual care routine and any instructions you provide, while making sure they get plenty of attention, enrichment and love while you’re away. I know how stressful it can be to leave your pets with someone else, so I’ll treat them with the same care and kindness I’d want for my own and keep you updated along the way! Please note (dog boarding): My partner, Johanna, and I work together to ensure your pet is never left alone while boarding with us. I work outside the home four days per week, while Johanna works from home. On the rare occasion our schedules overlap, your pup can come to work with me as my office assistant! 🐾 Johanna also has 10+ years of pet care experience, including doggy daycare, volunteering at local animal shelters, senior pet care, and administering medications. You’ll have the chance to meet both of us and do a home visit if desired before your pet’s stay!

Emily is absolutely wonderful with Ila. Ila can be a bit of an anxious dog and is happiest in her own home, so finding someone and somewhere she is genuinely comfortable with means a lot to us. Staying with Emily has become one of Ila’s favourite things to do — she is always happy to see her and settles in beautifully. Emily is incredibly patient, caring and attentive with her, and somehow Ila even comes home better behaved and more responsive to her commands! We are so grateful to have Emily’s place as Ila’s trusted home away from home. Knowing she is somewhere she feels safe, loved and comfortable gives us tremendous peace of mind. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emily to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust with their pet.

Schedule
I work outside of the home four days per week and have open availability for drop-in visits on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Visits on other days of the week may also be possible depending on timing, so feel free to reach out! For pets staying in our home, my partner works from home, which allows us to offer a flexible and consistent boarding schedule with plenty of company and attention throughout the day.

Safety, trust & environment
Safety and comfort are always my priority. In your home, I’ll follow your pet’s usual routine and care instructions as closely as possible so they can stay comfortable in their own environment. For pets staying in our home, we have three cats, so introductions are always handled slowly and carefully with the ability to keep pets completely separated when needed. I’m very mindful of each animal’s individual personality, boundaries, and comfort level, and I’ll always keep you updated while your pet is in my care.

A typical day
We love keeping our guests active, happy, and included in our day! Depending on your pet’s personality and energy level, their stay can include neighbourhood walks, hikes and nature trails, playtime, enrichment activities, car rides, and plenty of cuddles and downtime at home. For social dogs, and with their owner’s permission, we can also arrange playdates with trusted, well-balanced dog friends. We don’t use public dog parks with dogs in our care, as their safety is always our priority. Most importantly, activities are tailored to each pet, whether they’re an adventure buddy who wants to come everywhere with us or a couch potato who would rather snuggle up at home!

- Before your pet’s stay, I’d love to know as much as possible about their normal routine, personality, and individual needs so I can make their time with us feel like home! Please let me know about their feeding and walking schedule, medications or medical conditions, allergies, behavioural quirks, fears or triggers, and how they do when left alone. For dogs, it’s also important for me to know how they interact with other dogs, cats, and new people, whether they are crate trained, and if they have any history of reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, escaping, or destructive behaviours. There’s no such thing as too much information. I’ve worked in the pet care field for about 10 years and understand that every fur baby has their own quirks. Being upfront helps me provide the safest, most comfortable care possible!
