Pet care experience

First Aid/CPR Certified-Fenced yard

**CANINE AND FELINE FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFIED** I've had dogs in my life for nineteen years and believe them to be the best companions. If you have one, you know no one loves you like a dog does. Caring for them and fostering that connection is sincerely the most meaningful, rewarding part of my life. In the past, I have done end of life care for half a dozen dogs, taking care of most until the week they cross the rainbow bridge. This has either been in the form of a sort of hospice care, or continued daycare. It's an honor to be with them and their owners during this impossibly heartbreaking time. I have experience caring for lame, blind, and deaf dogs, those with canine dementia, and one with a neurological disease that involved special attention and medication for seizures. I pay special attention to dog behavior. If your pet is anxious or experiencing any health concerns I will communicate about it immediately, calmly, and clearly. In my six years of doing pet care full time from home, I have never had an emergency incident with a dog attack, or a dog running away. I am incredibly careful with them. I understand how important your pets are to you, and will communicate with you as I would want someone to communicate with me about my own pets. This includes 1-2 updates daily with photos, occasional videos, and anything interesting we did throughout the day. I will let you know their eating and sleeping habits, and any stressors they're exhibiting from environmental changes or your absence. **A note about my rates: My rates reflect my experience and diligence. They also reflect Rover's commission. As of 2025, Rover takes 20% from sitters, not including the 15% fees they charge clients on top of our rates. This means that although I charge $50/night for boarding, I keep $40. Also, sitters are independent contractors and as such pay 30% income tax, meaning I make $28/night after taxes. That said, I understand that pet care is not affordable for most. If you are interested in booking with me but find my rates to be unaffordable, please communicate with me about it; I would rather work with you where you're at than not at all. Thank you so much for considering me as your sitter. I hope to work with you and your beloved pet(s).

Emilie was wonderful during our extended time away (about 2 weeks), caring for our rambunctious cattle dog mix and senior tortoise shell cat. She maintained clear communication throughout, provided updates and photos, and really seemed to help our pets cope with our time away. Notably, this was all during a deep freeze in Minnesota with several days of double digits below zero in a row, which meant our dog wasn't about to go for walks or play in the yard for extended periods. On this front, Emilie did training sessions with our dog to help with some enrichment/indoor activity, which we really appreciate. And amidst this deep freeze there was some shoveling, trickling of water to make sure our pipes didn't freeze or burst etc. All in all a really wonderful and dependable person to turn to if you need someone to watch your pets (and home).

Schedule

The dogs have ample opportunity to play in the yard while supervised. We also go for walks if necessary, though I don't like to expose any dogs I care for to anything that involves risk, especially walks in the city which can lead to encounters with stray cats, unleashed dogs, traffic, and loud noises. If we go for walks, we generally drive to familiar trails in the suburbs.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a 6' privacy fence that encloses the backyard; it was built with my (late) 5lb Chihuahua in mind, and contains my 85lb German Shepherd with no problems. The gates are sturdy, secure, and padlocked at all times. My entire home is dog-friendly; pets are welcome on furniture and my bed, and free to wander around as they please. I take special care to dog-proof the house; there is no way for dogs to access food on the counters, the cat food or litterboxes, or anything that could be dangerous to chew on. They're provided with plenty of toys for stimulation, including lick mats if desired. They always eat and receive treats only when separated from each other in case anyone is tempted to resource guard in a group. When I leave the house for work, dogs are separated from each other with pet gates.

Pets

A typical day

Our favorite outdoor activity is hiking, and I love taking the dogs on adventures with me. Weather permitting, we go for a hike once a week, and a walk as often as possible during the week (providing your dog is trained for leash walks). With attention paid to dietary restrictions, dogs are allowed puzzle toys and frozen lick mats once a day--under supervision--in order to provide mental stimulation and decrease anxiety. Due to the physical risk, we do not spend time at dog parks.

Dogs over 1 year old
Spayed and neutered dogs only
No females in heat
Emilie can host up to 3 pets per night
I would like to know their energy level, favorite treats and toy types, and what kind of routine they normally have. It's important for me to know how they behave with other dogs as well as cats since I have both in the house. Understanding their prey drive, whether or not they resource guard, and how territorial they are, is essential.
