Home Is Where The Cat Is

I love all animals, but I am a cat person. I believe that people who say “cats are just fine on their own. Leave out food and they won’t even notice that you’re gone for two weeks“ just fundamentally don’t understand cats. I have lived with shy cats, grumpy cats, sweet dumb cats, aggressive cats, sometimes all at once. They are all individuals and that’s how I approach each one. I don’t believe that any cat wants to be taken out of the place where it feels most comfortable, its home, and therefore I do not offer boarding. I would love to meet your cat in your home and take care of both its basic needs (clean litter boxes, food and water) and its need for companionship and enrichment. Some cats don’t mind a stranger and they’ll be happy to play with me. If your cats are anything like my boys Moose and SquirreI, I won’t even see them because they will hide the moment I walk in the house. That’s fine. I have no problem sitting quietly and allowing them to get used to my presence. Either way, your cats will get the benefit of the full amount of contracted time. I will never just feed, scoop, and run. I have given medications to cats and if your cat needs that, we can discuss it. As we both know, sometimes it is easier said than done so any special requirements are something that we would need to talk about before the booking.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

I have been trusted with other people's cats in their homes for some years now and I take the responsibility very seriously. I offer drop-in services for cats only, and the welfare and happiness of the cat(s) is my first priority. I am happy to provide incidental services such as picking up mail, but any more extensive services that would take away from the time I can spend on the cats would be an extra charge (example: if you have many plants that need watering). We will need to schedule a meet-and-greet at your home prior to booking, so that you and your cat(s) can get to know me, and we can all assess whether I am a good fit for your needs. Depending on the timing, you might choose to give me your key at that time, or we might arrange for me to pick it up at a date closer to the confirmed booking.

Elaine is my go-to cat sitter. We are down to 2 from a previous high of 7, but the number of cats didn't matter- She loved them all. They were fed to their preference, and the litter boxes were fresh and clean.

Elaine has been my sitter for Bandit multiple times from two to fifteen days this past year. She feeds her and they play during the visit then I get a text and photos, sometimes a short video, telling me how the cat's doing. She's an obvious cat lover and has done a great job for us. Happy to have her and love seeing how my pet is doing.

Schedule

After 25 years working at Travelers, I decided to take a break. I don’t know yet whether I’m actually “retired“ but for now my schedule is wide open.

Elaine can host up to 4 drop-ins per day
I understand that cats are individuals. Your insights about their needs and personality, as well as the experience we all have during the meet and greet, are important so that I can give your cat the best experience possible.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
