Dogs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From fostering dogs and helping them find the right homes, to caring for puppies, seniors, and dogs of all sizes, I've gained experience with a wide variety of needs and personalities. After spending nearly 17 years with my beloved Lab, Max, and now raising my rescue dog, Basil Maxine, I understand the trust it takes to leave your pet with someone else. I understand that every dog is unique and deserves patience, love, safety, and individualized care.

Schedule
I work from home full-time as a payroll specialist, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to be present throughout the day. My dog, Basil, typically goes out around 9 a.m., 3 p.m., and again one or two times in the evening, so guest dogs can expect regular potty breaks, walks, and attention. We enjoy exploring our neighborhood, including walks along the Milwaukee River and visits to nearby open grassy areas. While we occasionally visit the dog park, it is not a regular part of our routine and is never required. If it's something your dog enjoys and you're comfortable with, I'm happy to discuss it. Since I'm a homebody by nature, your dog will have plenty of company, supervision, and care while you're away, whether it's for a few hours or a longer vacation.

Safety, trust & environment
My home is a calm, dog-friendly environment where pets are treated like family. Guest dogs will receive plenty of attention, exercise, affection, and opportunities for rest. Walks are always on leash, and I prioritize safe introductions and positive interactions with other dogs we may encounter during our walks. Basil is a friendly, social dog who enjoys the company of other dogs. That said, I understand that every dog has different comfort levels, routines, and needs. I'm happy to accommodate crate or kennel routines if that's what your dog is accustomed to. We have a crate suitable for smaller breeds, and there is space for a larger crate if you'd prefer to provide your own. Dogs can also be fed separately or given their own space when needed to ensure everyone remains comfortable and safe. I understand that every dog is different. My goal is to provide the same level of care, patience, and love that I provide for my own dog.

A typical day
Every dog is different, so a typical day really depends on what your pup enjoys most and any instructions you'd like me to follow. Some dogs want to play all day, while others prefer a few walks and a cozy place to nap, and I'm happy to accommodate either. Basil has accumulated quite the toy collection and loves sharing! We have everything from balls and tug toys to squeaky toys, plush toys, and durable toys. We also have several enrichment toys that can be filled with treats of your choosing to provide extra mental stimulation and fun. Between walks, playtime, enrichment activities, supervised balcony hangs, and plenty of affection, your dog will have lots of opportunities to stay active, engaged, and comfortable throughout their stay.

- I want your pup's stay to feel as comfortable and familiar as possible. Please let me know about their routine, personality, likes and dislikes, feeding schedule, medications, allergies, fears, crate preferences, and any behaviors you'd like me to watch for. I'd also love to know how they do around other dogs, people, toys, treats, and mealtimes, as well as any commands or training cues they know. The more information you share, the better I can tailor their stay to their needs and help them feel right at home. That said, don't worry if you don't have a complete "owner's manual" for your dog! I'm comfortable adapting on the fly and have experience reading dog body language, recognizing when a dog may need a little extra space, rest, or attention, and adjusting accordingly. If any questions or concerns come up during their stay, I'll be sure to reach out and keep you informed. I'd much rather have open communication than perfect information. My goal is simply to make sure your dog feels safe, happy, and cared for while you're away.
