Safety, trust & environment
Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. I provide a calm, structured home environment and limit boarding to a maximum of two small dogs at a time to ensure individualized attention and proper supervision. I have one small dog and one cat in my home. All introductions are done slowly and thoughtfully to ensure compatibility and minimize stress. If needed, pets can be safely separated. My home includes a securely fenced yard for safe outdoor time. All outdoor activity is supervised. With over 10 years of veterinary experience, I am comfortable monitoring behavior, recognizing early signs of illness or distress, and administering medications when required. Cleanliness, routine, and clear communication are very important to me. You will receive regular updates so you can feel confident and at ease while you’re away.

Information Dixie M. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know about your pet’s temperament, energy level, medical needs, feeding schedule, and any behaviors I should be aware of. I appreciate honesty about separation anxiety, resource guarding, or reactivity so I can ensure a safe environment. There is an infant in my home. She is not mobile, but it is important that all dogs are comfortable around children and able to remain calm in a family environment. All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and friendly with a small dog and cat. I specialize in small dogs at this time and do not accept large breeds.
A typical day
A typical day in my home is calm, structured, and centered around your pet’s comfort and routine. Because I am home throughout the day, pets receive consistent supervision, attention, and companionship. Mornings start with outdoor time in the fenced yard, followed by breakfast based on your pet’s normal schedule. Throughout the day, there are supervised potty breaks, playtime, enrichment, and rest periods to keep things balanced and low-stress. I follow each pet’s routine as closely as possible whether that includes crate time, medications, specific feeding schedules, or extra cuddle time. Since I only board up to two small dogs at a time, your pet won’t feel overwhelmed or lost in a busy environment. For boarding services, I require a meet-and-greet prior to booking to ensure compatibility and a safe, comfortable experience for everyone.

Pet care experience
I have over 10 years of experience working in the veterinary field, including hands-on experience with dogs of all ages, temperaments, and medical needs. While I am no longer in a clinical setting, my background allows me to confidently monitor behavior, recognize early signs of illness, and administer medications when needed. I provide in-home boarding for small dogs only and intentionally limit care to a maximum of two dogs at a time to ensure a calm, structured environment with consistent supervision. My home includes a securely fenced yard for safe, supervised outdoor time. There is an infant in my home (not mobile), so all dogs must be comfortable in a family environment and able to remain calm around children. Meet-and-greets are required prior to boarding to ensure compatibility and safety for everyone.

Reviews

Dixie was communicative and flexible. We were able to take Calvin out for a few hours each day, which made it easier to leave him for the first time--he's just a puppy and we're first-time dog owners. He was delighted to see her when we brought him back to Dixie's after an outing. We really appreciated the photos she sent of our pup in her home. It was terrific to have such a pro on the case with our little guy. I highly recommend Dixie!
Dixie took terrific care of our puppy for two weeks this summer. She was responsive, thoughtful, and available whenever we had questions — and we were able to check in for some play dates with the puppy during stay. Would happily send the dog back to Dixie next summer!

Dixie was great! She was flexible when we needed Chowder to be picked up from the ferry landing last minute and she was responsive to our messages about Chowder. I also liked that she sent pictures throughout his stay so we could see how he was doing. It seemed like Chowder had a great time and we will definitely use Dixie again when we come back to Nantucket!
Dixie was great. We only needed/used her the 1st night. She was great with Millie and very communicative. Thank you!
