Deborah can care for

Cats

Availability

I have a lot of flexibility as I am retired. I do a lot of volunteer work online but my schedule is my own so I can focus on the needs of your kitties. I am available for areas outside my address especially the Portland area and Madison Wisconsin.

I can come to your home to care for your kitties, or if preferred they can stay with me. Though cats are often considered independent, it is best if they have someone around throughout the day / night. I take my direction from the pet parents as to how their kitty reacts with strangers, then take my cues from the felines themselves as to how much hands-on interaction they prefer. The goal is to keep their schedule and life as normal as possible. Derived from my years of doing this, I have a checklist of information that I ask for to assure that I have what I will need to care for the kitties and the house in all sorts of possibilities.

Information Deborah L. would like to know about your pet

Please inform me of any attention that your kitty prefers - or things he or she hates: being picked up, touched on the stomach, hind feet sensitivity, etc. Also, will it be best for me to not wear perfume - many cats can't tolerate it. And what are your house rules for cats on counters, tables etc. and sharing people food? Also, are there good windows that allow sunspots in the house, and do they like to get into new things (in my suitcase) that I should watch for (earplugs for example are a favorite of kitties but can be deadly).

A typical day

What I do with your kitties will be dictated by them - after all, they rule. I do make sure that at least three times a day they have engagement activities with me: morning, afternoon and evening playtime which may be anything from chasing a string to setting up a sheet tent and playing in that. I listen to your cats and take my cues from them. There is always time for cuddling and I love it when the kitties sleep with me.

Cat care experience

I focus soley on cats and am known by clients as a cat whisperer. Having been owned by cats for over 50 years, we understand each other. I have cared for 5-week old kittens to 22-year old cats in diapers, with house stays ranging from 3 nights to 7 weeks. I am comfortable giving medicines or fluids, clipping claws and always find unique ways to engage even the most docile kitties in play. I have done everything from foster kittens, to board cats at my home to cat-sit in other countries. I know that cats do best in their own homes and with a loving person at their service, ready to play or just sit together.I have had the joy and honor of pet-sitting for cats of all different personalities: shy and scared to aloof and demanding, some indoor/outdoor kitties to indoor only, some on raw-meat only diets, others on kibbles only, from healthy and vibrant to sickly and aged. I adore them all! I am committed to their health and happiness, and honor and respect their parents’ choices. I have provided the simple support of calming pets during a thunderstorm to taking a cat to the emergency vet upon discovering blood in her urine. I have cleaned up endless hairballs and dead rodents gifted to me by hunter cats, and provided a myriad of medical treatments to cats over the years. I know that pet-sitting is more than just caring for your cat, but for your home as well. I have been a home owner for over 33 years and understand the need to have your home kept clean and well cared for. On sits, I have had to prepare to evacuate for fires and deal with a frozen septic system. I love to travel and after the last of my cats crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, I decided to make it possible for other cat-lovers to travel. Its a win-win-win situation: you get to travel, I get to enjoy purrs and pets, and your kitties get pampered and spoiled.

We can't say enough good things about our experience working with Deborah! This was our first big trip since one of our cats went through some serious health scares this year, so we were anxious about leaving them for this extended trip. After meeting Deborah though, it became clear that she is such a thoughtful, caring cat sitter and that we'd have nothing to worry about. The cats were immediately at ease with her, and she was so committed to understanding our cats' specific needs (including giving meds, tracking weight, and working with our vet tech to administer subcutaneous fluids). During the trip she sent us regular detailed updates and made sure to ask questions whenever any of the directions we left were unclear. We loved receiving so many wonderful photos and videos of the cats playing with Deborah - it allowed us to fully enjoy our time with family seeing how much love and care our kitties were getting over the holidays (especially our one cat that is typically so shy with new people!). Returning home, it's as if we never left. The kitties were so relaxed (clearly having received so much love and attention from Deborah) and the home was neat and tidy. Our medically challenged boy somehow had more energy than before we left! Whether you have young or senior kitties, and whether you need drop-in visits or long-term care, we can't recommend Deborah enough. She is truly a cat whisperer, and we are so grateful we found her! We will 100% be asking her for help again during any future travel. Thank you for everything Deborah!

Deborah is the most amazing cat sitter who understands cats! Our senior cat Garp was having some medical issues before we left and she handled everything beautifully. Most interesting is that he sat on her lap, snuggled with her and let her brush him. He has a traumatic history so this was amazing. Left the house spotless, texted us regularly with updates and photos. We were worried about him before we left, especially because we were going to be really far away. We came home to a well cared for kitty. He misses her already! She will always be the person we contact first!

If you want the best sitter for your four legged family member, you will find it in Deborah. She stayed at our house and became a best friend to our cat. She kept us updated with lots of pictures, which we throughly enjoyed. Her total purpose was making sure kitty was cared for and happy with lots of playtime and pets. ❤️. Izzy will definitely be asking for her again! On a side note, Deborah also kept the house nice and even washed her sheets and towels! Much appreciated.

Deborah has provided an absolutely fantastic service! We were nervous about leaving our 3 cats for a month, especially our 17 year old, but Deborah took exceptional care of them all providing us with regular updates and photos of everyone looking happy, relaxed and well taken care of. She dedicates time to each cat for play and grooming and even gave our old boy Azzy massages to help his arthritis. Her level of professionalism is exemplary, giving us complete peace of mind that our cats and home were being well looked after. I cannot recommend Deborah highly enough!!
