David can care for
Availability
I respond to messages within minutes and I am usually available on short notice. Now that my own beloved companion animals have passed on, I can work as a full-time animal caregiver/sitter, the work I've always wanted to do, and spend my time loving animals instead of sitting at a desk staring at a computer screen. I keep my schedule as clear as possible so that I can be flexible and available on short notice, and so that I can be accommodating to any changes to your schedule. Unlike most sitters, I have a same-day cancellation policy because I understand that unexpected issues arise.

Safety, trust & environment
Simply put, I love being with animals, and I will stay focused on yours the entire time I am in your home. I will be attentive and stay close to them. No matter what’s happening when I’m with your animals, safety always comes first, especially on walks. That means making sure that the leash or harness is on correctly, looking both ways before crossing the street, and always being aware of our surroundings. I am happy to go on walks around your neighborhood or yard, play with toys, and give your animals all kinds of special attention and affection, including belly rubs. I ensure that fresh water is always available, as well as food per your instructions. I am trustworthy, reliable, punctual, patient, nurturing, and intuitive. I excel in unpredictable situations and crises. I’m an excellent communicator and I will send you as many photos as you like. Choosing me as your sitter means entrusting your animals to someone who will love and care for them like you do, as part of your family. Your beloved animals (and your home) will be in the very best hands while you are away.
Information David H. would like to know about your pet
Of course I will want to know the feeding instructions, bathroom routine, and exercise schedule. Other bits of information that are helpful include the following: • Favorite activities • Quirks and special needs • Treats • Litter box issues • Allergies and medications • Vet information • Closest emergency vet • Behavior on leash/harness • Any part of the body that should be avoided while petting
A typical day
I plan activities for your animals based to your instructions and their needs. I’m happy to stick to an established routine, and to work in as many or as few activities as necessary, whether that’s sitting on the sofa and giving lots of belly rubs and behind-the-ear scratches, playing fetch in the yard, playing with toys in the home, walking around your neighborhood, or whatever!

Experienced, Caring Professional
Pet care experience
All my life I have been surrounded with animals, and I would be honored to love and care for yours. Because I genuinely enjoy the company of animals (more than humans, frankly), I will stay close to yours the entire time I am in your home. If your animals prefer to hide or just want to be left alone, I will check on them periodically and talk to them. I have cared for elderly and sickly animals, and comforted many animals in their final days. I am also experienced with giving medications, and I am first aid/CPR-certified for cats and dogs. I have volunteered at many shelters, where I spent most of my time comforting and socializing the most frightened and traumatized cats and dogs. My rate for one dog per night is $63, and $9 per night for each additional dog. My rate for one cat per night is $54, and $6 per night for each additional cat. Most sitters charge much more per animal, sometimes $15 to $40 for each additional animal! If a sitter has a low "per night" rate and you have more than one animal, be sure to check under "additional rates" because most of them charge ridiculously exorbitant amounts for each extra animal per night/visit. And I don't charge extra for holidays like most sitters do. Caring for animals is my lifetime passion, not a hobby. There’s something about me that animals love, even the animals who are scared of everyone. Given time, just about every animal I have met has warmed up to me and wanted affection from me—including the most terrified cats! People have always been amazed at how animals are drawn to me. Whenever I visit someone’s home, the animals quickly end up next to me, at my feet, or in my lap. I love getting to know the unique personality of every animal I meet. Many times I have been told by cat guardians that they have one fearful cat who hides from everyone, and later that cat ends up in my lap purring! My decades of volunteer work at shelters and sanctuaries has taught me a lot about animal behavior. I am skilled at calming down anxious animals and helping animals cope with separation anxiety. I love watching animals curiously assess who I am and then decide that I may pet them. I absolutely love petting animals, which causes the release of the “love” hormone oxytocin in the animals and in the human petting them, resulting in feelings of comfort, healing, bonding, and trust. I have cared for many animal species of different demeanors. If your cats tend to hide when strangers are around, don’t be surprised when they come out to get to know me. I am very experienced with dogs of all sizes and ages, including hyperactive puppies. I have worked with animals who are aggressive, lame, incapacitated, blind, and deaf. I have rescued and fostered kittens and puppies. I have taken care of animals of all kinds: rats, pigs, fish, ferrets, chickens, snakes, hamsters, parrots, horses, cows, lizards, turtles, turkeys, rabbits, etc. In my experience, animals do better when they are kept in their home environment. I will follow your instructions and respect your home while I am caring for your precious family members. I bring my own food and personal items (such as sheets, pillows, bath towel, etc.) so that you don’t have to worry about me eating your food or using your items. When I am in your home, my priority is making your animals feel safe and loved in your absence. If you prefer a responsible adult who actually enjoys spending time being with animals, rather than some kid who enjoys spending time staring at a screen, then let's schedule a meet-and-greet!

Reviews

David took great care of our pets! We couldn’t be happier.

David did an excellent (and professional) job taking care of our Golden Retriever. I would be more than happy to work with him (David) again. He sent pictures each day of our ‘precious boy’ while on vacation - a nice bonus. Thank you.

David did an absolutely amazing job with my doggos. I would highly recommend him.

David has watched our pets several times. His professionalism and kindness is always welcome in our home. Thank you David for everything!!
