Pet care experience

15+ years in the animal care field!

Hi, I'm Dave! I have over 15 years of professional work experience and education in the animal care field; working with everything from rodents to horses, and everything in between! I've had the pleasure of helping out 20 different Fairbanks families so far and look forward to growing that circle soon! In 2009, I completed a vocational school program in Small Animal Science: a two-year course designed for training future veterinary technicians. From there I worked at several boarding kennels where I cared for dogs and cats staying for day care as well as boarding. I now have my B.S. in Wildlife Biology, but still enjoy caring for more domesticated animals of all sizes. I have a very friendly Border Collie who I am training to eventually compete in agility competitions, as well as other canine sports and activities. I am looking forward to making connections with other pet parents here in the Fairbanks area, and hope that you will let me care for your pet! References can be made available upon request! I have experience caring for the following: Dogs (including several dog sled teams of 15+ dogs) Cats Horses Goats Chickens Ducks/geese Rabbits Guinea pigs/rats/mice/etc Fish Birds Chinchillas Reptiles/Amphibians

Dog Walking • Jan 18, 2020

David took great care of my dog when he was walking him. He even didn’t mind the super cold temps we had in Jan. I’d recommend David without hesitation.

David Hejna is a lover of all animals. He attended program during high school to learn specifically about animals . After high school he worked at PetSmart dealing with mostly cats and dogs in the pet hotel and doggy play time. He then attended a environmental/ animal protection college (Paul Smith). Personally, he is loved by my dogs and after getting his own puppy has taught her many amazing things. I would trust him to take care of my precious pups anytime!

David has cared for my three large dogs in my home several times over the last couple of years. He treats my dogs like his own and also leaves my home clean and tidy. I recommend David as your next pet sitter! He rocks!

David was my pet sitter when I live in upstate New York. When I went away on vacation, David took care of my cat, giving him loads of attention, and making sure he was properly feed and hydrated. David is a very responsible person, and I would trust him to care for any animal. He's great with dogs, and animals love him. I knew my cat would be safe and well cared for when David was watching him. Your pet would be lucky to have David as a sitter.

David is a dog owner and trainer. He has worked with animals for over 10 years. He took small animal science in high school.. David worked at a kennel for many years and made lots of 4 legged friends. He has also watched dogs for many friends and neighbors. He is a wildlife biologist. He also has had a large fish tank and raised cocktails.. David is a caring, responsible, loving person. If David was back in Buffalo NY we’d have him dog sit our new puppy.

David is a great pet sitter! He is knowledgeable and very caring. I had him stay at our house and watch our 4 dogs while we went on vacation. Would recommend him for any pet care you are looking for!

Schedule

August through April is my 'off season' from my remote fieldwork, meaning I have ample time to dedicate to house/pet sitting when back in town. I have many friends and coworkers that ask me to house/dog sit and my '22-'23 calendar is filling up fast. Reach out to me if you would like to get on my schedule!

Safety, trust & environment

Whether in my cabin, or at your home, an animals safety is my #1 priority. I am very flexible with an individual pets needs/requirements and can adapt very easily to adjust to what is necessary - whether that's leashed walks, supervised playtime with other dogs, or kenneled naps.

A typical day

Walks, playing with toys, agility training, skijoring, and learning new tricks are all a possibility. Play time with my energetic border collie is also a great way to tire anyone out.

I have had an opportunity over the years to work with a large number of breeds and am familiar with the temperaments and personalities of each. I have no breed restrictions, but ask that you let me know if your dog is well behaved in the presence of other dogs, especially if he/she will be in contact with my own dog or other clients' pets.
