I’m the Guy Your Dog Told You About

I’ve had dogs since I was 8, so that’s 37 years of experience, or about 259 in dog years. I realize that is not how math works, but dogs have never seemed particularly concerned with accounting. I know dogs, and dogs tend to know dog people. One dog, multiple dogs, big dogs, little dogs, seniors, nervous dogs, stubborn dogs, and the occasional household with enough personalities to qualify for its own reality show. I’m comfortable with all of it. I pay attention, respect their routines, and know when something is just dogs being dogs versus something worth paying closer attention to. I’ve also owned and maintained homes for many years, so I understand that house sitting means taking care of more than the dog. You don’t need to explain that packages come inside, gates get checked, doors get locked, or that water coming from somewhere water should not be coming from probably deserves immediate attention. Mostly, I’m there to make being away easy. Your dogs get someone who genuinely knows and likes dogs. Your home gets looked after by a responsible adult. You get useful updates and considerably fewer reasons to wonder what’s happening back home. Dogs know who their people are. I’m just the guy they told you about until you get back.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

You’re trusting someone with your pets and your home. I don’t take either lightly. I follow instructions, double-check gates and doors, keep medications and feeding routines straight, and pay attention when something seems off. I’ve also owned and maintained homes for years, so I’m comfortable handling the everyday stuff without needing you to explain that the package on the porch should probably come inside. If something leaks, breaks, looks strange, or suddenly starts making a noise it definitely was not making yesterday, I’m going to notice. My care is provided in your home, where your pets already know the routine and can remain comfortably surrounded by their favorite beds, toys, smells, and suspiciously important patches of carpet. The goal is simple. You should be able to leave town without feeling like you also left behind a second job.

David was great with our 8 month old golden retriever puppy, Stanley. He did the one thing we wanted- play, play, play! He sent some great pics and was super attentive to take great care of our home and our elderly cat too. Thanks, David!

David took good care of my dogs overall and followed the instructions, which I appreciate. My dogs were safe and comfortable, and there were no major issues during the stay.

David watched our house and our pup Wilma for over a month while we were out of the country. He has done long bookings for us in the past and our home and dog are always well cared for and everything is great when we get home. We try to book David when ever he is available.

Thank you, David, for once again taking such wonderful care of Sadie and Ares so I could get away for the day without a worry. I truly appreciate how reliable, attentive, and kind you are to me and my babies, and I always feel completely safe and comfortable having you in my home. For the longest time I thought Sadie didn’t like men, but it turns out she’s simply a good judge of character! I love the videos of her greeting you with genuine smiles and snuggling up beside you. Seeing Ares so excited to play with you and seek out your affection in the photos and videos is just as sweet. The dogs seem happier in your care than they have been in years, and that means so much to me.

Schedule

I work remotely, which is pretty convenient when your coworker has four legs and thinks every Zoom call would benefit from their participation. For house sitting, I can often work right from your home, so your dog gets more company throughout the day, regular potty breaks, walks, playtime, and somebody nearby while you’re gone. I try to keep their normal routine as normal as possible. Same meals, same walks, same bedtime habits, same inexplicable need to inspect one particular bush every morning. I also offer drop-ins and overnight stays, depending on what works best for you and your pets. Your dog gets to stay home, keep their routine, and wonder why this new guy brought a laptop to their house.

Give me the stuff that actually matters. Their normal routine. Feeding instructions. Medications. Commands they know. Walking habits. Fears, triggers, allergies, medical concerns, escape tendencies, and anything they absolutely should or should not do. For multiple dogs, let me know how the group works. Who eats separately, who steals toys, who needs a little space, who starts the wrestling match, and who somehow gets blamed for all of it. And tell me the weird stuff. The dog who refuses to go outside in the rain. The one who needs the TV left on. The one who will steal a sandwich with the precision of a Navy SEAL. Those details do not make your dog difficult. They make them your dog.
