Pet expert with extra time & love

I got my first kitten when I was nine, my first puppy at ten, but I have always adored animals. I remember meeting my first doberman when I was six years old, I came out of Oswald's with my Grandpa and there he was - the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. When I was 12, my Grandpa booked a day for me to shadow his buddy, the wonderful late Dr. Eaganhouse, who allowed me to follow him around for a shift, because I planned to be a veterinarian. I left that day thoroughly grossed out and knowing I would never be a vet, but I've never lost my love for critters. Alllll of them! I have extensive experience caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and other small animals. I am fully comfortable with birds and reptiles (no venomous or constrictor snakes), basically if I don't already know how to care for it, and you're willing to show me, I'll give it 110%. A few things about me: - I have a BA in sociology and have turned to Rover for a fun source of extra income while I complete my MBA, beginning full time in October. It is an online program so I will be home the entire day. - I was accredited as a Pet Training Instructor for a big pet store in Bolingbrook back in 2005, so there's a chance one of you may even remember me! - I have also worked as a kennel representative caring for boarding cats and dogs, as well as an adoption counselor for a humane society, a grooming assistant, a doggy daycare supervisor (in a professional setting, supervising up to 90 dogs!), and pet nutritionist. - I was dog mom to three amazing babies for many years. My Pomeranian Poe (who was King of the Greene Valley dog park in 2004!) was my beloved for almost 14 years. His American Eskimo Dog sister, Cadence, lived faithfully by our side for over 11, and their big little brother Doberman/German Shepherd mix, Zombie, who we lost at 8. I miss them with every breath I take. - I, and my gentle loving fiancee, Jeff, share our home with our rescue Lulu, a dalmatian husky mix who is just over a year old. She is full of life and love and thinks nothing is better than playing with other dogs. She has been a jewel about sharing her home, treats, toys, and love. We also have 2 bunnies, Leaf and Butter (who I call Turkey/Butterball Turkey), who are really great. They are free roaming under supervision but have secure cages when alone. Your pet may be permitted to sniff the cage but will not be allowed unsecured access to the bun buns at any time. - I will love and care for your pet like my own, intensely. SERVICES OFFERED: Dog boarding in my home for 1 family with up to 2 dogs at a time. My backyard has a secure 4 foot tall chain link fence that completely encloses the yard, but is not appropriate for all dogs.

I was super nervous to leave my German shepherd, Walter for the holiday , but they made him so comfortable and he absolutely loved their dog! They took naps together and I got photos and updates. Walter was absolutely exhausted and well taken care of . I will for sure be using them again!

Darla was really polite and friendly, and her dog Lulu is a total cutie pie. She sent me pics of Justin during his stay which made me feel so comforted and at ease knowing he was in good hands. Thank you, Darla! :)

Darla is a wonderful caretaker for animals. She has experience caring for multiple fur-family members at one time. She is kind and knows how to properly manage dogs and cats. She loves animals and it shows in her efforts to provide for the animals under her care and her loving heart towards animals in need. I highly recommend Darla to care for your babies!

Darla helped me manage and run a dog farm for many years. She is kind and loving to the animals and respectful and diligent in her duties. She was always on time and came for emergencies. She has experience with many breeds and I can attest to her skill and time management. Darla comes highly recommended from our pack!!!

Safety, trust & environment

I have a large fenced yard, where I will stay with the dogs at all times. The majority of the yard is currently a 4 foot chain link fence - larger or high energy dogs will NOT be taken off leash until I am 100% confident they will not try to jump the fence. If your pet has EVER escaped a fence or you fear they may try, I am NOT the sitter for you. The yard is well maintained and will be scooped daily throughout the visits. If your dog is crate trained, that works fine. If you prefer a dog bed next to Lulu, that's fine too. I will take your wishes and habits into consideration for all decisions. I will care for your pet with all the respect in the world.

Pets

A typical day

I have a big backyard and a chuck it for throwing tennis balls, for dogs that prove trustworthy with the 4 foot chain link fence! My neighborhood is great for walking, as well as having many parks and greenways nearby. What's "fun" for dogs can vary so we'll make a plan that works for your pet.

I will need to know what your dog expects from me, if you don't allow them on the furniture, I want to stay consistent. I'll need to know about any health issues, allergies, or known triggers. As well as the best way to reward and engage your kiddo.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
