I am semi-retired and work from home. As I have a fenced yard, I can easily accommodate small and medium sized dogs. I may have to go out for an hour here and there, but, for the most part, I am home.

I have a fenced yard for dogs. Sorry - no cats at this time. If your dog is crate trained, they can stay in my bedroom with me in the crate, or if they are completely housetrained, they can even snuggle on the bed if that is your preference. When looking after pets in your home, I will follow their routine, as advised by you.

Information DARCY N. would like to know about your pet
I need to know a bit about your pets history, especially if a rescue as it may have PTSD or reactivity with other dogs. Medications, history of seizures, illness, etc., is also a must. Any special treatment your pet gets, for example, vitamins, or puzzles that are used for mental stimulations. I need to know how they are on leash as well. I prefer halters over collars as I have more control over them, and it doesn't pull on their necks. Plus I would need your vets phone number and address and permission to take your pet to the emergency vet if necessary. I would also need to know their sleep and eating schedules and what they are familiar with.
A typical day
First off, morning pee break! Then breakfast, some cuddles and if required, a walk. After I've worked a couple hours, weather permitting, it's outside for game of fetch or just to explore what the yard has to offer. A visit to the pet beach may be in order. On cold or rainy days, inside play is a must. Tug, fetch, find the treat, whatever your pet requires. Afternoon walks or at least outside playtime are a must followed by dinner, outside for poop or pee, and then snuggles before bedtime when there's a final bit of outside time. I live in an area where there have been coyotes, deer and bear sightings, so I never let a dog go outside on their own. There are a few dogs in my neighbourhood, so if it is in my home, I could arrange a playdate if desired.

Pet care experience
Please note I can NOT take dogs over 15” at the shoulder. If your dog is under 15" at the shoulder I can take them even if they weigh 35 lbs. Thanks for understanding. Also ROVER charges you 11% on top of my rate. Plus they take 20% of whatever is booked. Thought you should know :) Now on to the profile. Also I have my location set for housesitting in Alberta in August as I will be there. Already booked up for July and September on Vancouver Island. I honestly love animals. I sometimes ask my friends to come over, just so I can hang out with their dogs. (my friends are okay with this) I'm well versed in giving dogs and cats their medication orally, or mixed in with food. I don't give needles. All of my dogs, except one lived to ripe old ages and I am well versed in dealing with mobility issues, deafness, blindness and incontinence. I love animals of all ages and I truly believe each stage of their life enhances ours. I have dealt with foster dogs with PTSD and I'm well aware how slow movements and soft voices are highly important to make a pet feel comfortable. I've taken a few dogs from vicious to cuddle bug in my time. Yes, some of them took months, but in the end, they learned to trust. All they need is love, patience and the time to destress and learn that not every human will hurt them. That being said, I'm not up for sitting a reactive dog at this time. I understand that your pets will need to approach me, not the other way around. Of course I will try to coax them to come to me, but if they don't, I'm okay with that. I simply want to give care to animals and get their companionship, if only for a short time, in return.
Reviews

Darcy was absolutely terrific with our rambunctious puppy Mia. She had an excellent time.

An amazing lady! Great with photos and videos of our boy. Played with him, got him walking the area and he adored her! We couldn’t have been more thrilled to meet Darcy and see her with Archie-bear!

Darcy took wonderful care of Teddy. Teddy is a new rescue and Darcy was the perfect person to take care of him with her fostering experience. He quickly became comfortable with her and created a bond ☺️ Darcy also kept us regularly updated with pictures and videos. We’re so lucky to have found our go-to sitter on our first try with Rover!

My old boy spent 2 weeks with Darcy while we were away and he had the best time ever! I received pictures or videos daily of him running around, playing outside, and getting cuddles. He settled right in and I felt completely confident in his care with Darcy. From our first meeting, during his stay and at pickup, Darcy was very kind, knowledgeable and compassionate. It’s very clear she loves caring for dogs! Thanks, Darcy!
