I work remotely and have a flexible schedule, so I am available to walk and care dogs at a variety of hours. The length of walks is up to you and your dog-- I am happy to do short walks or longer outings depending on what you need!

Safety, trust & environment
I am happy to refer you to references (animal shelter staff and volunteers) who can attest to my dog-handling skills and my ability to work with dogs from a variety of backgrounds. The safety of your pet and your home always come first, and I am very comfortable taking any steps needed to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
Information Daniel S. would like to know about your pet
I love to learn about dogs' idiosyncrasies, whether it's something goofy or something that makes it a little more difficult to care for them. Getting to know a dog is the best part of working with them, so the more info you can provide upfront, the quicker we'll get on the same page! I do know, however, that dogs react differently to different people, so I will always be sensitive to their body language and other responses to meeting me.
A typical day
I adapt to a dog's preferences-- for some, that means a long walk, run, or hike (Santa Cruz has some amazing dog-friendly hiking spots!). For others, that's a slow walk around the neighborhood and a "sniffari."

Specializing in Behavioral Needs
Pet care experience
I have been caring for my 13 year old dog, Molly, for 11 years. I am also an active volunteer at the county animal shelter, working with dogs (1,000+ hours) and cats (400+ hours). I have a special place in my heart for dogs with behavioral and medical needs, and working with them at the shelter has taught me patience and skills that help to make the animals more comfortable. I also have training in puppy care, senior dog care, walking leash-sensitive dogs, and caring for injured animals. The time I get to spend with dogs is the most fun I have doing anything, and I take a lot of pride in caring for them with the appropriate level of attention and patience they need.
Reviews
Daniel has a way with dogs :) he was able to win the trust of my very shy and fearful shelter dog. I very much appreciate his knowledge of how to handle a dog like this. Great dog walker, highly recommend.

Daniel was the best thank you so much!!

This was our second time booking Dan to look after our Shea, and he was a fantastic sitter! Great communication, long walks, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a pet sitter.

Daniel is great with dogs, super communicative, and everything you could ask for when finding someone to look after your pets. Would 100% recommend and he is at the top of my list next time we need a sitter.
