I work part-time remote for an animal photojournalism organization, which gives me a very flexible schedule. I’m able to plan my days around animals, whether that’s walks, drop-ins, or spending quality time with animals in their own home. I have a reliable truck. Because I’m home-based, I’m also available for consistent routines, mid-day visits, and last-minute needs when possible. Pet care fits easily into my week, and I genuinely enjoy building my day around it.

Information Cynthia H. would like to know about your pet
I'd love to hear about your pet and who they are - what they like, dislike, any medical needs and any food allergies or preferences. For dogs, how are they with other dogs and what commands do they know? Anything you want to share helps!
A typical day
It really depends on the animal! For a lower energy animal, just chillin' and hanging out together. For a higher energy buddy, exercise, play and mental stimulation.

Gentle Care for Sensitive Animals
Pet care experience
I am Aunty Cindy to many animals. I adore animals and take their care very seriously. In fact it’s fair to say my entire life (and career!) revolves around them. I have a special ability to work with animals who are more challenging, special needs, reactive or sensitive, because I have years of experience caring for rescues of my own. I fully understand how hard it is as an owner to trust someone with these special cases and I'd love to be of help. I’ve spent most of my life around animals. I’ve worked with horses for nearly 40 years (I trained beginner riders at Southlands in Vancouver) and I currently own a horse in Roberts Creek, so I’m very comfortable reading body language, handling strong personalities, and staying calm in unpredictable situations. I also have hands-on experience with fearful and reactive dogs through my own rescue, Sweepy, who came completely wild and fearful from Thailand. That experience and all the research and training it led me to (countless courses and loads of work with different trainers and specialists) has taught me patience, respect for boundaries, a keen sense of body language, and the knowledge of how to build trust with animals who don’t feel safe right away. I also love cats and am very attentive to their unique personalities and needs. I have worked with numerous cat rescues as a photographer. In my 20s I worked at two dog daycare facilities downtown Vancouver and in Kitsilano as a dog walker, caring for dogs of all sizes, temperaments, and energy levels. I’m confident with everything from high-energy dogs to seniors and more sensitive cases. In my 30s, I started a successful pet photography business (Muddy Love), which is still in business and has given me a strong ability to connect with animals quickly and make them feel at ease. Odds are you will get some bonus awesome photos of your pets if you choose me as a sitter! Overall, I’m calm, observant, and genuinely obsessed with animals. Ask anyone in my life who their most animal loving friend is, and there is no doubt they'd name me without giving it a second thought. I take each animal's care incredibly seriously and aim to make them feel safe, understood, and well looked after.

Reviews

Cynthia was kind and caring with our dog Sadie. She communicated well and left the house spotless! Thank you so much Cynthia!

I had an emergency that required me to quickly find someone who could walk my semi-reactive dog while I was visiting the Sunshine Coast. Someone I respected referred me to Cindy's Rover profile. In my initial contact with Cindy she was clearly a mature, confident and experienced dog person who I could trust letting into my place and to care for my dog. She did a great job caring for Tater and when I actually got to meet her it was clear she had the skills to quickly developed a positive, trusting bond with him in a short period of time. I was lucky to find her and she made a stressful situation much less stressful. Thank you, Cindy! Highly recommended!
Cindy is an animal lover - I can highly recommend her to anyone as a pet sitter. She's such a natural with dogs and animals of all kinds - compassionate and attentive, any pup would be lucky to have her as a sitter. If you're looking for someone to care for your dog like family, Cindy is the perfect choice.
Cindy took excellent care of our Labrador year old puppy! She even taught Maya new tricks, took her for long dily walks, down to the beach and more. She was an excellent communicator and touched base with us regularly with amazing photos. She followed our outlined feeding and walk scheudle exactly, and gave our rambunxious pup lots of love, we couldn't be happier!
