Safety, trust & environment
When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on maintaining their normal routine so they feel comfortable and secure while you’re away. I follow all feeding schedules, exercise needs, and any specific instructions you provide, whether that includes administering medications, reinforcing training, or accommodating special diets. I also make sure pets get plenty of attention, enrichment, and affection so they don’t feel stressed or lonely. For walks, I prioritize safety, structure, and engagement. I’m experienced handling dogs with different energy levels and temperaments, and I tailor each walk to their needs. I practice good leash handling, stay aware of surroundings, and reinforce positive behaviors during walks. In addition to pet care, I respect your home by keeping things clean and tidy. My background in shelter work means I’m very comfortable with cleaning tasks, monitoring pet health and behavior, and responding calmly to unexpected situations. My goal is to provide dependable, attentive care so both you and your pet feel at ease.
Information Courtney N. would like to know about your pet
I like to learn as much as possible to ensure I provide the safest and most comfortable experience. Important details include their daily routine (feeding schedule, walk times, sleep habits), medical needs or medications, and any allergies or dietary restrictions. I also ask about behavior and temperament—how they interact with other dogs or people, any triggers or fears, leash manners, and whether they have any history of anxiety or reactivity. Knowing their favorite activities, toys, and comfort items helps me keep them happy and relaxed. It’s also helpful to understand any training cues or commands you use so I can stay consistent, as well as emergency contacts and veterinary information. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can tailor my care and make your pet feel safe, secure, and right at home.
A typical day
I love keeping pets engaged, active, and happy with a mix of physical exercise and mental stimulation. Depending on each dog’s personality and energy level, I enjoy taking them on walks around the neighborhood or to local parks where they can explore new sights and smells. For more active dogs, I’m happy to incorporate longer walks, play sessions, or trips to appropriate outdoor spaces. I also like to include fun training games during our time together, such as practicing basic commands, using positive reinforcement, and engaging in puzzle or enrichment activities that challenge their minds. For puppies, this is a great way to build good habits, and for adult dogs, it helps reinforce structure and confidence. For more relaxed or senior pets, I focus on gentle play, shorter walks, and plenty of companionship and affection. My goal is always to tailor activities to each pet so they feel safe, stimulated, and cared for while having fun.

Pet care experience
What sets me apart as a sitter is my depth of hands-on experience and genuine commitment to animal well-being. I have over 15 years of animal care experience, including pet and house sitting, as well as volunteering with rescues and shelters where I’ve assisted with grooming, walking, and daycare. I currently volunteer with the San Diego Humane Society on the dog team, where I handle dog walking, playtime enrichment, and essential care tasks like laundry and kennel cleaning. I’m comfortable working with dogs of all ages, temperaments, and needs—from energetic puppies who benefit from basic training and structure, to senior dogs who require patience, gentle handling, and attentive care. My background has taught me how to read animal behavior, build trust quickly, and create a safe, calm environment. I treat every pet as if they were my own, ensuring they feel secure, loved, and well cared for while you’re away.
