Need some dog love in my life :)
Hello! I’m a full-time high school teacher who loves animals… but haven’t been ready to get a new dog since my own passed away two years ago. Taking care of other people’s dogs has satisfied my need to be around dogs and actually works better with my schedule that can include some long days and nights with school activities or other work requirements. My summer break is my favorite time to do this. During the school year (late Aug-late May), I mostly do weekends or my holiday breaks with only occasional weekdays! If your pet can last on their own for 9-10 hours, I am happy to do weekdays, but I know that’s pretty long to be alone for many pets!!! But unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to come home for lunch and my somewhat long drive to school makes my day longer. Sometimes I’m able to get a family member or neighbor to stop by and let a dog out midday if needed but that’s not something I can count on. It’s not ideal, which is why I focus on weekends and breaks during the school year :)

Colleen is the best!! She is extremely friendly, quick to respond, and very accommodating. She treated my dog Maya like she was her own and I could tell she was very well loved and cared for. Colleen was absolutely wonderful! Not only did she take our pup last minute, but was very accommodating of all the changes in our travel plans. She sent photos, both printed and digital and helped our Penny Have a wonderful time.

Schedule
During the school year, I’m most available on *weekends* but can of course provide care in the afternoon and evening on a school/week day… just not as much as I can on a weekend or holiday :)

Safety, trust & environment
I have a wire fenced yard (not a privacy fence). It’s not the biggest but I’ve also had a smaller yard! There are neighboring dogs, as well, so keep that in mind. As mentioned, no dog at the moment. I’m very careful with dogs in terms of behavior. I was raised to understand that the person is responsible for the dog’s behavior. This means paying attention, shortening the lead when needed, helping the dog feel secure, crossing the street, etc.
A typical day
What I love about dogs is that even little, basic things can be fun, exciting, or enjoyable for dogs. I try not to rush dogs while on walks… sometimes they just want to sniff!!! I’m happy to toss balls, play rug of war, and especially happy to lounge around together and cuddle.
