Pet care experience

My backyard is a heavenly dog park!

I am owner operator of Creating Companions which I have offered current services for the last 8 years. The last 2 years I have also been the owner operator of Mill Brook Acres, our farm. Growing up my family had a vast array of animals to caretake for. Throughout my adulthood I rescued, fostered, helped friends keep or rehome their companions and I have served as a dog trainer in the community for 16 years. I began my passion of canine stewardship when i was an early teen, earning quarters for walking elderly neighbor's dogs. I was much older when I realized that it was less about earning change and more about enabling the elders around me to continue to hold stewardship of their canine companions in sickness and in health. I have hand raised canines from birth to eldercare. I have always done this with limited land and space, now we have a ten acre haven to provide services from.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a 2 year old female mastiff who loves all dogs and people. Your pup will be staying in our home. We can accommodate setting up a crate inside our home, most dogs prefer a kennel to sleep in while here. I build a relationship with the pup initially. To do this I will use a leash. Do you want your dog to learn to run next to your bike? That’s my favorite way to exercise. If there is a need for space or down time they can have it. Depending on your pup's needs I can accommodate activities 1 on 1, activities with our companion, Cara, or group adventures. Regardless of preferences, we can discuss the best plan of care prior to your booking.

Colby was outstanding and our dog loves her. She did a fantastic job and was flexible when our travels plans changed unexpectedly. We're so happy that we found her.

Schedule

I can accommodate down time as well as mental stimulation & physical activity. I can work with each dog's individual needs and owner preferences. Typical day is wake up by 6 am, potty, inside again to eat - everyone eats separately in their kennel/own space, then we go out for our morning walk. Depending on the farm tasks of the day we can spend anywhere between 2-4 hours outside before lunch. If there is a task that involves high concentration the dogs will have the ability to stay outside by us as we work but on an anchored lead. Any dog that does not enjoy a lead can stay out in my fenced in areas that I can separate to provide each “family,” their own area. Around 11:30 am we come in for a cool down/rest. Where pups will spend about an hour in their kennel/sleeping area of choice. By 12:30-1 pm we are back outside starting with a walk/exploration. Afternoon and evening events vary - we go out rain or shine a minimum of 3 hours. I listen to your pups body language and silent requests. If a low energy pup is ready to go rest inside, they are able to even if the rest of the pack is fully energized. Dinner is around 5 pm, then we either take a dinner break or go back out. Long walk around 6:30 pm and we are all typically out until bed time which varies.

We can work together to plan training, exercise and down time. I will tailor the day to your pet’s (and your,) liking. Prior plans are done with your pup every time possible. I believe socialization is so much more and goes deeper than what is assumed. Let me know what you have found doesn’t work for your pup, I will help to guide creating your preferred companion.
