Availability

I am currently on a sabbatical from work, so I am home 100% of the time and always available for pets, play, and potty breaks. We don't have kids and our hobbies are home-based (lots of gardening & cooking), so we are most often at home and excited to romp, walk, hike, or snuggle with your pup. Depending on your preference, we can either just play and exercise them in the yard, or take walks in the neighborhood. Or, if you're comfortable with it, we regularly use SniffSpot to visit a 2.5 acre private dog park (no other dogs) and would be happy to take your dog for an outing. The cost for a private dog park visit is $16 (Rover won't let me include the link, but if you go to the Sniff Spot website and search "Preeti's 2.5 Acre Fully Fenced Private Dog Park In Renton" you can check out the spot we visit.) *We also live 2 blocks from a public dog park, but I am very aware that public dog parks are NOT good settings for many dogs. I don't take guest dogs to the public dog park unless their parent specifically requests it and we do a trial trip together first.

Safety, trust & environment

Safety and comfort are our top concerns. It can be stressful and scary (for both dogs and their humans) to be in a new place. Especially if your dog is a sensitive soul and/or likes to go adventuring. That's why we are hyper vigilant with things like securely closing gates and making sure leashes are attached to the sturdy ring and not that flimsy ring that affixes the tag to the larger ring. The way our house and yard are set up, it makes it very easy for your dog(s) to have a large comfortable space to relax in. In summer, they can sun themselves on the back deck or retreat inside to enjoy the AC. In winter, we have multiple gas stoves to curl up in front of. A note on play styles & energy levels: From experience, we've learned that the best fit for our space and family are dogs who have moderate or lower energy levels. While we love active pups, we are a better fit for dogs who are happy chilling out, roaming the yard, and going for walks or hikes. For the safety of our dogs and respect for our neighbors, we can't accept dogs who bark frequently or have a very physical "paws on" style of play. Our hounds are great at co-existing with many different types of dogs: they will gladly snuggle with your dog, go for walks with them, and maybe do a tug-o-war with a toy, but they do not like to be body slammed, jumped on, or harassed to play when they are relaxing.

Information Claudia H. would like to know about your pet

It is important to know what your dog's routines are, any health concerns, and what puts them at ease or can cause them stress. For their health, are they taking any medications or supplements? Are there any conditions or behaviors we should watch out for like paw gnawing? Are they dealing with any current injuries? Do they have a teeth cleaning routine you'd like us to do? For the routines: What do they eat and when? Any quirks with food or water like drinking too much all at once? Where do they like to sleep? Are they crate trained? How are they on a leash? Would you like us to walk them, or do you prefer us to stay with them in the yard? Any special training or commands that we can use/reinforce with them? For behaviors: Does you dog have any known triggers for fear, stress, or aggression? For example, loud noises, food or toy guarding, or leash aggression. Our goal is to give your dog as comfortable, safe, and positive experience as possible.

A typical day

A typical day starts with a morning potty break between 6:45am and 7:30. Then there is breakfast (if your dog usually has an AM meal), yard romping & sniffing (to see which critters visited in the night), then some morning cuddles on the couch. During the mid-morning, depending on your dog's typical schedule, we can either go for a walk or they can join the hounds for a nap in the sun or by the fire. At midday we can go on a walk around the quiet neighborhood, head to Genesee park, walk along the lake, or just play hard in the yard with fetch and tug-o-war. We have a neighbor dog who LOVES to play chase, so if that's what your dog is into, we can bring her over for a play date. In the evening, we like to take a walk along the lake or at Seward Park. Then it is time for supper and a relaxing evening snuggled up on the couch (unless you prefer we keep them off the furniture). Our dogs typically go to bed around 10 or 10:30 and sleep in their crates night. Your dog is welcome to either sleep in our room on a dog bed, free-range sleep in the house, or sleep in a crate -whatever is most comfortable/closest to their routine at home. On the weekend, we can do a private dog park adventure or go for a hike if that is an appropriate fit for your dog's activity level and leash training.

Relaxing Retreat for Mellow Pups

Pet care experience

Hello! I've been caring for dogs personally and professionally for 30 years. Professional Experience: - I’ve had the privilege of caring for dogs through Rover and Trusted House Sitters for 5 years. - I worked at a boarding facility called Ruffin' It Resort in Madison, WI for three months following college and was responsible for walking, feeding, bathing, exercising, and cleaning up after dozens of dogs. I also got to work the overnight shift which was surprisingly fun! Personal & Volunteer Experience I’ve cared for dogs since I was six years old - feeding, walking, grooming, and cleaning up the yard. As an adult, I've volunteered with two animal shelters, one in Seattle, and one in Paintsville, KY to foster dogs of all breeds and sizes. Outside of Rover, I’ve also done short- and long-term dog sitting for friends and family. The two long term experiences were for a Blue Heeler puppy in Alaska (her mom was a salmon fisherwoman who needed to be out on the boat all summer), and two young Pitbull pups in Puerto Rico (their mom was a ranger at El Yunque National Forest and needed to travel back state side for a month).

Claudia is an amazing dog sitter. Her yard is great, safe, and romp friendly! Dogs get to be inside - and if you are like me and have a golden retriever, the dog gets to itself at home and gets buckets of love She is uper attentive to any health concens and/or counter surfers. My dog got lots of walks and i got lots pix. My pooch was smiling, peaceful, and loved. M Claudia handled my 75 behemoth really really well. So highly recommended. Have hired already for my next trip!
