Ruby’s Retreat | Home from Home

I have over 25 years of experience caring for dogs and run Ruby’s Retreat, a home-from-home boarding service in Dukinfield. As a Rover Star Sitter with 33 five-star reviews, I provide personalised care in a calm family environment. I work from home, meaning dogs receive company, supervision and attention throughout the day. I have experience with puppies, senior dogs, rescue dogs, nervous dogs, medication administration and multi-dog households. Every dog is treated as an individual and I take time to learn their personality, routine and preferences so they feel safe, relaxed and settled during their stay. I carefully manage group dynamics and only accept dogs that I feel will be a good fit for the environment, ensuring a positive experience for everyone.

Claire was amazing looking after my dog for the day. Clear communication, we had a meet and greet and then day care, with contact and pictures through the day too. Will definitely be using her service again!

This is a review for Clare , we booked Clare and found her so easy to communicate with . The booking was last minute and explained to Clare that Rex was really good with other dogs 🐶. We told her of other Rover carers looking after Rex with no trouble. I had booked the wrong weekend but Clare being so good and easy going said she would change the dates with no problem which was great for us as we thought we would have to find another Rover carers . We were a little late but Clare was easy going with the time as well . If I could sum up Clare is she absolutely loves dogs and will be safe with her and you don’t have to worry at all about your little or big pooch . Thank you Clare and if we are in Manchester again we would definitely use again 💯.ps Rex is on medication and she was so good at dispensing this to our pooch 👍👍🍀

Clare was brilliant with our Cosmo, plenty of pictures, lots of walks and her dogs were lovely and friendly to keep Cosmo company. You can tell Clare really cares and you will be leaving your doggies in safe hands, catering to any requests and normal schedules you may have. Would highly recommend!

We made a very short notice booking with Clare and were offered two meet and greet opportunities beforehand, which was really reassuring. We were very anxious as it was the first time leaving Rocket with someone other than family, but Clare immediately put our minds at ease. Throughout Rocket's stay, we received multiple updates, which helped us feel relaxed and confident that he was being well cared for. Rocket had the best time, made new friends, and received plenty of cuddles, attention, and love. Clare treated Rocket like one of her own ❤️ We couldn't be happier with the service Clare provided and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy dog boarder. Thank you, Clare, for taking such wonderful care of Rocket ❤️

Excellent service, messaged Clare last minute on bank holiday for her to look after Bobby for the day and she messaged back instantly, we dropped him off and he settled straight away. Clare took pictures and kept us posted throughout the day. Would definitely use again.

Schedule

I work from home full-time, which means dogs are rarely left alone and receive plenty of supervision, attention and companionship throughout the day. Each day includes garden access, exercise, playtime, rest periods and lots of interaction. I adapt routines to suit individual dogs, whether they prefer active days, quiet companionship or a little of both. I am flexible with feeding schedules, medication requirements and established routines to help your dog feel comfortable and settled during their stay.

Safety, trust & environment

At Ruby’s Retreat, dogs stay in a calm family home with secure outdoor space and are treated as part of the family. I carefully manage introductions and group dynamics to ensure dogs are well matched and comfortable with one another. Every dog receives individual attention and I take time to understand their personality, routine and any specific needs before their stay. Dogs are welcome on furniture and have access to both indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the day. However, I am always happy to follow an owner’s preferred rules and routines to maintain consistency. Regular photo and video updates are provided throughout your dog’s stay, giving you complete peace of mind while you’re away.

Pets

A typical day

A typical day at Ruby’s Retreat starts with breakfast, garden time and a morning walk. The rest of the day is tailored to the dogs staying with me, with a mix of exercise, playtime, enrichment and plenty of opportunities to relax. Dogs have access to both the house and secure garden throughout the day and are free to snooze on the sofa, play with friends or simply stay close by while I work from home. I keep routines as close as possible to what dogs are used to at home, helping them feel relaxed and settled. Throughout the day, owners receive regular photo and video updates so they can see their dog enjoying their stay.

Please tell me as much as possible about your dog’s personality, routine and any special requirements before their stay. I’d particularly like to know about: • Feeding schedules and dietary requirements • Medication or health conditions • Sleeping arrangements • Favourite toys, activities and treats • Any fears, anxieties or behavioural quirks • Recall and lead-walking habits • Experience with other dogs • Household rules you’d like me to follow The more information you provide, the easier it is for me to ensure your dog feels safe, happy and comfortable during their stay at Ruby’s Retreat.
