Pet care experience

Doggie Island Retreat

I am a huge animal lover and have always loved and cared for dogs. I previously worked at a veterinary surgery center for several years where surgeries were completed every day, caring for seriously injured and sick dogs. Being there to care for them before and after surgery was so gratifying, and definitely gave me a lot of experience handling all dogs, including those that were painful or weak. I have a Shih Tzu named Keyser and he loves other dogs. He is very social, but not overly energetic and won't bother any dog who doesn't want to play with him. My husband and I love spending time with him (we will with your dogs too!) and taking him on new adventures. He was a rescue and came to us very skittish, but now he loves playing, learning new tricks and accompanying us wherever we can take him. I always want to be sure this is the best fit for everyone so I do require a meet and greet ahead of time. On our meet and greet, we'll confirm your dog is comfortable in this setting and we'll go over all the details that make your pet unique. I will keep you updated with texts or emails throughout your dog's stay so you can know they are having a great time! We offer a relaxed, loving home and will give your dog all the love and care they deserve! I want us to be respectful of each other's time so I'll always request a half-hour window time estimate for dropping off and picking up. This is to ensure pups aren't dropped off unexpectedly during any conference calls on work days, or that we're home and not out walking pups on the weekends.

I had a wonderful experience with Claire on Rover. She watched my dog Daisy for an extended stay of about two weeks and did an excellent job caring for her. I received frequent updates and lots of photos, which really helped me feel at ease while I was away. Daisy came home happy, healthy, and clearly well cared for. I would absolutely book with Claire again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and attentive sitter through Rover.

Claire always does an amazing job taking care of Millie! She is easy to communicate with, sends pictures during the stay, and I trust Millie is well taken care of. We really appreciate having Claire anytime we go out of town!

Schedule

I work from home so I am here all day during the week, but I do get out either Saturday or Sunday to run errands, go in the boat, etc., so pups may be without me for up to 7 hours on Saturday or Sunday. Because of this, I may request specific morning or evening drop off/pick up times for Saturdays.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a single-level home with a lovely backyard and a pool overlooking the Boca Ciega Bay. The house is fenced on both sides and open to the water. Pups are never left in the backyard alone. We did receive flooding from Hurricane Helene. **Hurricane Notice - My home is on the water in a mandatory evacuation zone during Tropical Storms and Hurricanes. During these storms, I may need to evacuate quickly and it can be difficult or impossible for me to take multiple dogs with me. If you are in the country, it is the owner's responsibility to return prior to any named storms in order to collect your dog. If you are not in the country, and/or have tried but are unable to return home in time, I will do everything I can to secure your pup with another trusted dog sitter at an additional expense for transport and boarding. No pups will ever be left alone in an evacuated house.

Pets

A typical day

Dogs are allowed on the furniture and they sleep in their own beds at night. All the beds are lined up in our bedroom and they have a pup slumber party at night with Keyser! Keyser loves to sit on the dock and watch the ducks and wildlife go by, including dolphins and manatees. Your dog will have many outdoor potty breaks and play times but will never be left in the yard unattended.

0 to 15 lbs
Dogs over 1 year old
Spayed and neutered dogs only

I do take dogs up to 20 lbs. All pups must be potty trained before any stays. I do require evidence of current Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations before your pup's stay. Please let me know if your pup has any quirks I should be aware of during our meet and greet i.e. chewing, getting in the trash, escape artist.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
