Information Claire B. would like to know about your pet

What I would like to know about your fur family member... Does your dog bark, and when? Do they get along with other animals and humans? Do they have a history of aggression? What motivates them (food, snuggles, etc)? Do they have any health issues? Is there a a specific routine you like to keep for them? Does your cat stick to the litter box or will there often be messes to clean up? Is your little one an escape artist? Anything you’d like to add when describing your babies also be great.

A typical day

At home I spend the bulk of my time working on the computer, serenading the fur babies with my voice, acoustic guitar, or the piano. We take breaks every 1-2 hours to visit the outdoors. Sometimes we bring a chuck-it or soccer ball. Sometimes we play with the hose. Sometimes we simply walk around, smelling every bush, tree and blade of grass. Sometimes we just sit and enjoy being outside, watching the squirrels and feeling the sun and the breeze. I live two blocks from Lower Macleay Park in NW Portland. Emma, pet-guests and I enjoy taking walks along the trail, wading in the stream and playing fetch in the park. (Emma always returns the ball and has taught other dogs to do the same!) When at home, Emma & friends enjoy playing ball, relaxing on their many, oversized beds, playing with stuffed toys, chewing on buffalo horns, deer antlers and solving complicated puzzle toys for the ultimate goal of reaching the delicious, hidden, grain free treats inside. While I work on the computer, the pups love watching animal YouTube videos on our television. Among their favorites are bird and squirrel videos, virtual dog walks, and farm animals grazing in English meadows. We also enjoy fenced-in playdates at friends' homes or dog parks, and visits to local, dog friendly patios for social hour. Your fur baby is welcome to ride in my Toyota Highlander for any away-from-home excursions.

Pet care experience

Buongiorno! A little about me... I'm an Italian-American GT3 Racecar engineer who used to be a research scientist in neuropharmacology, immunology and virology. There isn't much racing in Portland, so between races I find myself at home enjoying beautiful Pacific Northwest for weeks or months at a time. I have the most amazing, smiley, 14 year old puppy, Emma, whom I’ve raised from birth. Emma is also a trained service animal. Through the years I’ve rescued many pets, volunteered for numerous shelters, foster programs and humane societies. I’m an experienced dog trainer and spent several years studying the art of canine communication, positive reinforcement dog training and animal nutrition. I have trained both service animals and regular, farmily pets. When I was attending engineering school, I worked for a health- and nutrition- based pet food store that focused on healing, and/or improving the health of pets within the community. During that time I was able to help many owners battle through allergy and food intolerance issues. I am well experienced in caring for elderly and special needs pets. I’ve cared for many large and small dogs recovering from recent hip replacements, knee surgeries, abdominal surgeries, cancer and more. In addition to my lifetime of fostering and rehabilitating sick or injured animals I spent over a decade as a research scientist in virology, immunology, biochemistry and neuropharmacology before I switched my career towards engineering. My background helps guide me in the care of the animals I love. I have a natural connection with the animal kingdom and love every opportunity in which I am blessed enough to use it. Emma and I look forward to meeting your very special farmily members. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Arrivederci e a presto! Claire & Emma

I gave Claire a very involved, complicated assignment with multiple types of critters to care for and she did a great job. She handled some unexpected complications very well and with plenty of good communication. I'll be asking her back!

Claire is best friend a dog can have. She is loving, caring and understands how dogs work and think. I have seen her first hand care and love my dog George. He was special needs and in and out surgeries. She helped care for him on those days and also when he was just a normal dog living a good life. She helped him with all of it. I would trust her with any dog at any time. I can't think any other person that is best suited to be a Rover sitter.

We've known Claire and her fur family for many years, and during that time have asked her to watch our fur family many times. She's always been very reliable and responsible, and always attentive to our pets and their individual needs. We would definitely recommend her for your fur family as well.

Incredibly knowledgeable about all breeds of dogs. Claire is comfortable with the kooky idiosyncrasies that our furry friends bring. Ant dog would be happy to have her as a caregiver.
