For most of my childhood, I never was allowed to have a pet, despite being so eager to have one. However, I did know many friends and families who had dogs and cats, whom I would visit frequently. I would help feed them, walk them, play with them, give them gentle petting when they were receptive, etc. As a teenager I moved around a lot with my single mother and my younger sister, so I got to live with a few different pet owners: One of my adult roommates had an old senior Shih Tzu. The sweet girl had poor vision and moved slowly, but I did my best to help my roommate and handled her dog with care everyday. Another woman I lived with had two cats; the male was affectionate and friendly, and the female was the feisty and shy one. I approached both very differently, aware of their boundaries, and formed a sweet bond with both :) Then my mother’s friend, who had a bunny! I learned a lot about how to give them healthy and fulfilling lives. Bunnies are very high maintenance, yet admittedly my favorite animal to care for. It’s why I actually ended up having a pet rabbit to spend every day with when I lived with my grandmother for years. I’m now living in a faraway town and unable to see my sweet bunny as often, but I’m most experienced in rabbit care and grooming!! All in all, I get along with most animals, and I find animals of all types just precious, even during the more lackluster aspects of having them. I understand each pet is their own individual with unique needs and I will always be attuned to that. I feed crows and pigeons (not around other animals though), I photograph insects and reptiles… yes, I just love animals and living creatures.
