Calm rescue dog carer, 10+ yrs exp
For the past 10 years, I’ve been running a small dog rescue on my own land in Portugal, focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs. Working with volunteers and local charities, we built a cage-free setup where dogs lived as part of a stable social group rather than in kennels. At any given time there were usually around 10 dogs living together. I was the primary caretaker, so managing a group of dogs and keeping things steady was just part of everyday life. I've cared for dogs of all sizes, ages and temperaments, including puppies, senior dogs, blind and deaf dogs, dogs with disabilities, dogs recovering from illness, and dogs who have been neglected. Behavioural issues are not a problem for me. My approach is calm, practical, and focused on reading each animal and responding to what they need in the moment. I am compassionate and gentle. As well as dogs, I’ve had cats and chickens my whole life, and I also have experience caring for horses, pigs, goats, and ducks. Animals have been at the centre of my life for many years, and I love caring for them.

I care for pets in their own home so they stay in a familiar, low-stress environment. I follow their routine closely, including feeding, walks, medication, and any specific needs. I’m experienced in quickly settling into different homes and maintaining a calm, structured presence. I’m respectful of the space, keep everything secure and clean, and provide clear regular updates. With over 10 years of rescue experience, I’m confident handling a wide range of temperaments, including dogs that need patience or close supervision.

I have been using Christopher for all manner of animal care duties over the years. He has an innate ability to make all animals feel at ease around them, to connect with them and create a trust bond that clearly puts them at ease. He has always been great with providing communication, medications, and longer term more difficult rehabilitation needs. I would trust him with any of my animals and I recommend him to all my favourite people.
I had the privilege of getting to know Christopher in the Algarve, where he single-handedly managed a dog shelter with up to 20 dogs. His dedication to animals is extraordinary. He cares for every animal with genuine compassion, patience, and responsibility, always putting their wellbeing first. Christopher goes far beyond basic pet care. He actively raises donations, gives the animals love and attention, and makes incredible personal sacrifices to ensure they are safe and healthy. I personally witnessed him carrying sick dogs for kilometers to the veterinarian because he had no car, and spending his last money on medicine and food for the animals in his care. He is one of the most committed and trustworthy animal lovers I have ever met. Any pet owner would be fortunate to have Christopher caring for their pets, and I can recommend him wholeheartedly as a responsible, reliable, and deeply caring pet sitter. He is a so called GIGACHAD!

Schedule
I’m currently in the UK for a few months while I prepare to get married and relocate back to Europe. I’m staying with friends during this time, which means I have a very flexible schedule and am available throughout the week, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Pet care fits easily into my routine at the moment, and I’m able to be fully present and reliable with bookings.
