Your Pet Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect
I’ve spent the past 3 years volunteering with shelter dogs that were reactive, nervous, high energy, sensitive, untrained, and everything in between. My sister and I would take shelter dogs out for the day and bring them to the beach, on long walks, car rides, basically just let them have a full day outside of the shelter. That experience taught me a completely different level of dog care than I was used to from simply caring for my grandmother’s dog, Lulu. I learned how to recognize when a dog is uncomfortable, when to give them space, and how to work with their individual boundaries instead. Shelter dogs taught me that no two dogs are the same, and caring for them isn’t something to take lightly. I’ve also volunteered at the Staten Island Zoo for 2 years and have had animals around me my entire life. My pets back home in New York include my 8 year old cat Nemo, a blue tongued skink, bearded dragon, gecko, gerbils, tortoise, pixie frog, and more. My sister and I grew up going to animal expos, so I’ve had experience being around and caring for many different kinds of animals. Because of that, I’m very comfortable around animals, but I also know that being comfortable doesn’t mean ignoring their boundaries. I want to know their routine, personality, triggers, habits, favorite things, and anything else that helps them feel safe and comfortable. The more I know about your pet, the better I can care for them!

Christina is incredible with animals, she is so patient and sweet! We have gone out to volunteer and take a shelter dog out for the day multiple times. Christina cares a lot about animals and takes time to make sure the dogs are comfortable and happy!
Christina is one of the most caring and loving people I know when it comes to animals. She has always had such a natural connection with them and genuinely treats every animal like they’re her own. I’ve personally seen how much she cares for animals. When we were together at work, we came across a group of kittens, including some that were sick, and Christina didn’t hesitate for a second to take them in and make sure they were safe and cared for. She immediately wanted to help them and went out of her way to give them the attention and care they needed. Christina is responsible, patient, compassionate, and truly passionate about animals. I would completely trust her with any pet and know they would be in the best hands. Any animal would be lucky to have her caring for them!

Schedule
I’m a Virginia Tech student with a pretty open class schedule. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I only have class from 12:20–2:15 PM. Tuesdays are my busiest day, with classes from 9:30–12:15 PM, and on Thursdays I only have class from 11:00 AM–12:15 PM. Because of this, your pet would rarely be alone for long stretches; the longest would be around 3 hours on Tuesdays. Outside of class, I’m home and have plenty of time for walks, potty breaks, playtime, and keeping them company.

I live at The Hub, which is a pet friendly community with its own dog park and plenty of outdoor spaces for walks and potty breaks. I’d only use the dog park if it’s empty. I’m also happy to skip it completely if that’s what you prefer! I’d follow whatever routine your dog is already used to and keep things as normal and comfortable for them as possible while they’re with me!
A typical day
I’d take your dog on walks, give them plenty of time outside, and take them to a nearby park if you are comfortable with that! I’d also make sure they get enough stimulation and attention throughout the day while keeping them on their normal routine as much as possible.

- Please let me know about your pet’s normal routine, feeding schedule, medications, behavior around other animals, and anything else I should know ahead of time. I’d also like to know what they like and dislike, anything they’re scared of, and anything that makes them uncomfortable so I can avoid putting them in stressful situations. I prefer dogs that are potty trained, so if your dog is still being trained or has frequent accidents, I’d like to know!
