Pet care experience

Loving LIC Home Away From Home

I’ve always loved spending time with dogs and cats and taking care of friends’ and family’s pets. Since we don’t have a pet of our own right now, I really enjoy being able to dedicate my time to caring for someone else’s when the opportunity comes up. Back in Germany, we regularly took care of a friend’s toy poodle and I always loved joining friends for long dog walks. My husband grew up with two Newfoundlands, so being around dogs has always been a very natural part of his life too. Since moving to New York, I’ve especially missed having a dog around and having an excuse to go on long walks. We’re both very caring and attentive and really enjoy having a dog as part of our day. We also prefer to care for one dog at a time, so your dog gets our full attention rather than having to share it with several other pets. For us, pet sitting is not just about making sure your dog is fed and walked. We want them to feel comfortable, safe and genuinely cared for while they’re with us. We’re happy to follow their usual routine, give them lots of cuddles and belly rubs if they enjoy them, and provide daily brushing if that’s something they’re used to. We’d love to become a reliable second home for your dog and give them the same kind of care and attention we would want for our own pet.

Christina and Stefan were absolutely amazing with Cashew! From the very first message, they were warm, responsive, and clearly genuine animal lovers. Their communication was fantastic — I got regular updates and photos throughout the stay, which put my mind completely at ease. What really stood out was how compassionate and attentive they were. It was obvious Cashew felt safe and loved with them, not just cared for. They treated him like their own, and you could tell they truly cared about his comfort and happiness the whole time. I couldn’t have asked for better sitters. Trustworthy, kind, and clearly passionate about what they do. Cashew and I will absolutely be booking with Christina and Stefan again!

I can’t properly put into words how fantastic Christina and Stefan are. They boarded my dog on a last-minute request during the holiday chaos and were so gentle and loving with him that when I came to pick him up, he barked at me for a moment thinking I was an intruder in his new home 😆. They also sent multiple photos daily and were incredibly easy to communicate with. Coming from someone who has used Rover for years, I recommend them as highly as possible.

Amazing and beautiful people! They truly cared about my baby and took great care of him, from feeding him to taking him on walks to administering his medicine. They treated him like their own and I am beyond grateful. Teddy came to me so loved and I am able to see how well he was cared for. Thank you both! Amazing care and appreciate all the updates and kindness.

I want to share my appreciation for my wife's exceptional skills as both a dog sitter and dog walker. Her love and dedication to animals truly shine through in the way she cares for each and every dog, treating them with the same affection as they were her own. She has a natural ability to connect with animals, making them feel comfortable and safe in her presence. She has taken wonderful care of a friend’s toy poodle on a regular basis, ensuring that all of the dog's needs were consistently met. Her attention to detail and patience were especially evident when the toy poodle developed stomach disease when handed to her. She handled the situation with remarkable care, carefully following the instructions on how to prepare and serve the dog's special diet, exactly as directed and taking him out every 2 hours. Her commitment to the dog’s well-being during this time was truly commendable, as she not only provided the necessary medical care but also showered the poodle with the love and attention that helped her recover. Beyond, my wife has extensive experience with my family’s Newfoundland dogs. Anyone who knows Newfoundlands understands their size and unique care requirements, and she manages them with ease, showing both skill and confidence. Her experience with larger breeds, coupled with her gentle approach, highlights her versatility as a caregiver. In general, her ability to bond with pets of all kinds is remarkable. She treats every animal as if it were her own, always attentive to their needs, and making sure they feel loved and secure. She truly goes above and beyond to provide the highest level of care, whether it’s during a walk, a play session, or when simply sitting quietly by their side. I can confidently say that any dog would be in the best of hands with her, and she brings the same level of devotion and care to each and every pet she meets.

Schedule

I work fully from home during the week and have a fairly flexible schedule, so I can usually adapt to your dog’s routine and make time for walks, playtime and potty breaks throughout the day. My husband also works from home most of the week, so there is usually one of us around. Occasionally he travels for work and I may join him, but these trips are planned ahead and we keep our calendar updated. We would never accept a boarding stay if there was a chance we couldn’t be there for your dog. On weekends we sometimes have plans, but when we’re staying in the neighbourhood we’re also happy to take walks or board a dog, as long as we can give them the time and attention they deserve.

Safety, trust & environment

We live in a very dog-friendly apartment building near the Queens Plaza subway station and enjoy having a calm, clean and safe home for dogs to stay in. When your dog is with us, we want them to feel at home rather than like they’re in an unfamiliar place. We’ll give them time to settle in, respect their boundaries and pay attention to what makes them comfortable. We’re also happy to keep up with little parts of their normal routine, like daily brushing, if they enjoy it or are used to it. We don’t leave dogs unattended during a boarding stay. If we have plans that would mean we couldn’t be there, we would rather decline the request than leave your dog alone.

A typical day

Since we both work from home, your dog can hang out with us throughout the day — whether that means snuggling on my or my husband’s lap while we work, relaxing next to us on the couch, or finding a cozy spot nearby. We take regular breaks for walks, potty time and play. We’re always happy to explore the neighbourhood, visit their favourite park, take a longer walk or play with their favourite toy. And in between, there’s plenty of company, cuddles, belly rubs and attention (as long as they like it!). We’re also happy to brush them daily if that’s part of their normal routine. We really enjoy having a dog around while we work and want them to feel like part of our everyday life while they’re staying with us.

The more you can tell us about your dog, the better! We’d love to know about their usual routine, food and treats, allergies or dietary restrictions, things that make them nervous, sounds or triggers we should be aware of, and any boundaries they have. If there’s anything that helps your dog feel safe and comfortable, please let us know. We’re very empathetic towards dogs that are anxious or need a little extra time to warm up, and we’ll do our best to follow their normal routine and make them feel at ease with us. :)
