I work part-time remotely from home, so I have plenty of time to care for house pets, go for walks, and I am up at the crack of dawn most days. I love a healthy routine, and keeping things organized and tidy.

Whether I'm caring for a pet in my home or anyone else's, I like to follow the routine that works for everyone when it comes to exercise and feeding. When it comes to dealing with emergencies, I'm pretty chill, and I always check-in with the pet/home owner before any major purchases or vet visits.

Information Christina M. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know if your animals are house trained or if they might have accidents in new places or at home. It’s also helpful to know if they’ve ever shown any aggression toward other animals or people, so I can plan ahead and keep everyone safe and comfortable.
A typical day
I love going for hikes, which sometimes means driving to parks or areas where it’s safe for dogs to walk on or off leash. A typical day includes a morning walk around 7am, a midday outing, and another walk before bed. Depending on the day, I might take them to the beach, a local park, or a safe trail for some fresh air and exercise. If I’m caring for a cat, I’m used to playing games like fetch with ours — though I know many cats prefer to do their own thing and snuggle when the mood strikes. Whatever their personality, I make sure pets feel safe, happy, and loved.

Pet care experience
I’ve been an animal lover for as long as I can remember! Growing up with cats, dogs, birds, and even turtles, I was always surrounded by furry (and feathered) friends. My love for horses led me to the pony club, where I learned how to care for them and even competed. In the early 2000s, while living in Austin, I had the unique privilege of house- and cat-sitting for the dean of liberal arts at UT. He had eight cats, and every year when he traveled to the UK, I happily moved in as their temporary but devoted caretaker. Over the years, I’ve jumped at any chance to look after friends’ pets—both cats and dogs—because, honestly, hanging out with animals never feels like a chore. These days, my husband and I are often asked to house- and dog-sit for friends in Halifax, which is always a treat. I love keeping a tidy home, making sure pets get plenty of exercise (extra walks if they’re up for it!), and ensuring they get all the love and care they need. I’m also experienced with administering medication and even whipping up special homemade meals for pups with refined palates. Caring for animals has always been a joy, and I love the connections I’ve made along the way—both human and four-legged. Fun fact: As a kid, I tried to start a dog-walking business and passed out hundreds of flyers in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, dog-walking wasn’t really a thing back then, and the only call I got was from a lady… who had a cat!
Reviews
Our pup was under excellent care with Christina and Dale. Usually a bit shy, she immediately made new friends and we had no worries when we left. They stayed in touch with photos while we were away. Your pet will get lots of walks and affectionate attention at this house. Highly recommended. A big thank you from us and Mars.
Christina took care of our three rambunctious terriers for almost three weeks, including walks twice daily, regular feedings, and bathing and brushing as needed. She gave them loving care and lots of cuddles. Communication was great--she texted me as often as I wanted for reassurance, and always when there was a problem. When one of the dogs had a digestive illness, she consulted me regularly about the best course of action and even took the initiative to prepare special food for him. Christina stayed in our home and was tidy and respectful of our space. Christina is very highly recommended! I would have her back any time.
We have known Christina Martin for the last 30 years. We first met her as a university student and hired her to help us with afterschool care for our special needs daughter. She was both personally engaging and incredibly reliable and we started a lifelong friendship. Despite having her own career she has been involved with Buster, our beloved golden doodle for the last 16 years. She has cared for him both in her own home and in ours many times over the years, including nursing him back to health after a possible stroke while we were away. Our positive experience with Christina over the years has given us total trust in her to take special care of our daughter, our dog and our house. Her love of people and animals and her highly developed sense of responsibility would make her an ideal pet and house sitter for anyone lucky enough to have her. Her partner Dale is equally reliable and good with pets. We enthusiastically recommend Christina Martin as a kind, reliable carer for your pets and home.
