Port Townsend is a major (can’t understate that) dog friendly community, with more than half of our residents having at least one dog at home. So it stands to reason that visitors also bring their dogs to town for day trips, over nights, and vacations. There are so many dogs here, that many retailers have “shop dogs”, and countless restaurants, bars, B&B’s, hotels, INN’s allow behaved dogs to visit. But what happens when you want to do something without your dog? Or you live here, take a trip and your dog can’t go with you? You’re visiting and you’re dog can’t stay with you? That’s where we come in. We are a dog family. In our home, it is a team effort, it isn’t just one person, but three of us, plus our two dogs that make your dog visit the most amazing possible. We speak dog. Yes, we know others say that, but we really do. We know that your dog really doesn’t want to spend time away from you. They don’t want to be put into a cage, into a strange place with concrete floors. So if they have to be away from you, they want to be in a home that can talk to them. That allows them the freedom to trust the people they are with. We know the best thing that most dogs want is just someone to sit with them, play ball, brush them, talk to them, and take them out in the yard or for walks. How do we know all this? We have dogs too! They are not “pets”, but part of the family. Like you, we want them to be comfortable, conforited, and cared for just like we would. While your dog is visiting with us, they just become part of the family. Given the space they need to get comfortable. About this sitter: Our family is a true dog family. We normally have at least two dogs (although at the moment just one family dog), and often rescue lost neighborhood dogs. I raised my Golden Retriever (Summer) from a puppy, in fact she and I went through the 4-H service-dog training. At the end of January 2021 Lucy joined our family from a rescue nonprofit shelter. Our dogs never use a traditional kennel; in fact most days Lucy is hard at work as a “shop dog” at our locally owned family business here in town. Okay, so she isn’t “hard at work”, but she works hard at greeting everyone that comes into the shop. About our home: We live in the uptown area of Port Townsend with a large, fully fenced backyard. Additionally we are situated between two parks, walking trails and a great dog friendly neighborhood. Our home is a dog home, with toys, and reign of the entire house. Our dogs normally sleep on the bed in one room, or another and your dog is free to do the same. Please note: We are setup for overnight boarding in our home. We are not setup for any type of daycare situation.
