I've taken care of friend's cats for many years, and have spent a lot of time learning about cats to best help out whenever I had to cat-sit when my friends were out of town. I'm comfortable cleaning up after cats as well as brushing them, playing with them using their favorite toys, or just leaving them alone if that is what they prefer! I have experience bathing and clipping nails as well (depending on cat's comfort level/temperament) I have volunteered with a local nonprofit cat rescue since 2021 and have been adding to my skills such as medication mixing and administration, weighing cats, blacklight/screen for illnesses such as ringworm and ear mites, daily cleaning of pens, weekly deep cleaning of litter boxes and play pens, and generally getting familiar with cat behavior to be able to monitor their health and well-being. Combined with my personal experience and 5 years of volunteering at the nonprofit, I have experience caring for kittens as young as 4 weeks to cats as old as 18 years old. Many people assume that it is easy to care for a cat, but I understand that while cats may be more independent than other pets, that they still need to be cared for in an intentional way so that they can best thrive. Also a fun fact about me: I am allergic to cats! I take allergy medicine every day and carry my inhaler with me everywhere to be able to volunteer at the cat rescue or to hang out at my friends' houses who have cats. They are worth it, wholeheartedly!
