Availability

At the moment, I work exclusively with taking care of cats and dogs. So your animal will get a lot of attention. When I board dogs I take them out three or four times a day. I have outside things I do as well, and I have been able at times to take the small dogs with me. That's always fun.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a real one bedroom apartment, so the animals especially dogs have plenty of places to hang out. I also have an enclosed backyard that’s fairly large and safe with a very tall walls so the dogs and I can play catch. For cats, I have secure screens on the windows, so they can still bird watch - there is a tree in front of the window!

Information Cheryl Y. would like to know about your pet

What triggers does the dog have? Does he jump up? How is he on the leash? What can I expect in the way of his behavior with other dogs we might pass by on the street? Does he chew furniture? Will they get a along with my cat Pia?

A typical day

East River Park and Tompkins Square park are both near me. East River Park is huge and plenty of solitude for the dog. Tompkins Square is small and often congested, and has a doggy playground. There are 2 sections to it: one for small dogs and the other for medium to large dogs. Where I take them of course depends on the dogs preferences and personality - as to whether or not I walk him/her in a high-traffic area or find more secluded streets.

Mature, responsible and personable

Pet care experience

I've been cat sitting and boarding since 2014, and dog walking/boarding since 2017, and I take the job seriously. When on a dog walk, the animal's safety is my highest priority. I stay keenly aware of our surroundings, particularly in the hectic neighborhoods of Manhattan. If am boarding your dog, I walk him/her 3 or 4 times a day. As for cats, well...they rule. I have to say that, being around them all my life, I've gotten to know them pretty well. A fellow animal caretaker calls me the "cat whisperer". I've literally taken professional care of 100's of cats over the years, and with great success. But, at the end of the day, as any cat lover knows, it's not what we want, it's what they want. :) Taking care of animals never gets old. There is always something new, or something to learn, or, best of all, another animal to bond with. I make my own schedule, so I am available to take care of the critters pretty much when they need it. My general pet care work day goes from about 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. give or take. If the cat or dog stays with me, they have full reign of the apartment. I have a real one-bedroom, so there's lots of space to get comfortable. With the cats, they have plenty of places to "run for cover" if they get scared by a loud noise or something, plus good window sills looking out to the street. If cat sitting in their home, once they are fed and litter cleaned, I spend most of the time playing with them, if they let me. For dog boarding, I have a large backyard, fully enclosed, to play catch or just hang out with the pups. There are several nice parks and a dog park in my neighborhood, if they are so inclined. ** I LIVE IN AN ELEVATOR BUILDING **

I cannot recommend Cheryl enough! Our dog, Lilah, is a bit high maintenance, and Cheryl handled her with so much patience, care, and empathy. Lilah came home super happy and well-cared for.
