Before booking, I read all the positive reviews and was hoping to have a much better experience than we did. But, given the serious safety concerns we had for our dog while in Cheryl's care, I wanted to share my experiences so nobody else has to go through what we did. I tried to resolve this issues with Cheryl directly but unfortunately she blocked me and I had to file a safety complaint with Rover, who refunded me. But, it isn't even about the money. It was the fact that Cheryl left my dog home alone for several hours without telling me. During our initial booking, Cheryl specifically said she worked from home; therefore, she would always be watching our dog. We didn't get any messages from Cheryl throughout the weekend and we had to reach out to get any information. On the 2nd day, Cheryl said that our dog had lost all his dog tags, including his rabies tag, his chip and contact information. The lack of communication and apathy towards the situation was alarming. Cheryl could not offer up an explanation of how it occurred. When we picked up our dog, Cheryl admitted that she left our dog home for several hours so she could go to work- I pointed out that is not what she informed us when we dropped off, and had we known that we never would have booked in the first place. Cheryl then provided up a very different story, that her children were home watching the dog while she was out and that "she is allowed to have a life and not tell us where she goes." I have screenshots of all our communication between Cheryl and Rover must have thought this was completely unacceptable and violating their own booking policies, hence the full refund. Our dog came home smelling of marijuana and car urine, Cheryl admits her neighbors smoke marijuana and she has filed a complaint about the smell with her housing authority. Our dog smelled so bad, we needed to take him to the groomers immediately. Lastly, please read the review from 7/2025, where the other person mentions concerns for Cheryl watching too many dogs at the same time. This is extremely concerning since our dog came home with more than half his food that we packed for him. We specifically told Cheryl that he needed to be fed 3x a day- but Cheryl only fed him 2x a day, and then also allowed our dog to eat her dogs food. Luckily, our dog didn't have an allergic reaction, but the overall (lack of care), lack of communication, loosing dog tag and violations of Rover's- I would caution you from leaving your animal with Cheryl. I have all screenshots of communication with Cheryl where she presented as rude, unprofessional, hostile and aggressive. I am more than happy to send them along to anyone so you can see first hand. I tried to communication with Cheryl very respectfully and asked if she would be willing to pay to get new dog tags or the grooming, which she refused. Given the totality of concerns, I filed a formal safety complaint with Rover who apologized profusely. To me it is not about the money, I was always more concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my dog. But, to have Rover fully refund me speaks volumes of their internal investigation. Please do not leave your animal here.
