I always make sure the animal is comfortable in my presence. For dogs, the best way to let them get to know you is to squat down to their level, not making eye contact, and leave your hand out for them to approach and smell you at their own pace. Mainly, I kind of leave everything up to them and do what they are comfortable with, in reason of course!

A typical day
The answer to this question would depend on the animal. For my cats, I usually play with a fishing-rod type toy as they seem to like it most. For dogs, usually fetch or tug o war!

I am currently a junior at Rutgers University studying animal science. I have experience working with small animals, exotic animals, equines, and other large animals and am more than comfortable taking care of animals other than dogs and cats! I am also on the Rutgers University Hunt Seat Team and have experience as an exercise rider and catch rider should you find yourself needing that as well!
