I am a full time student in WashU's Master in Social Work program and a part time intern at the law clinics at their law school. Most weekdays are busy for me between 9-5pm so I would prefer to care for a pet that doesn't mind being left alone for 8hrs. Even if I am busy, I can compensate for my time away with evenings and weekends spent with your pet! For me pet care is almost like self care, taking a walk together, playing, or lots of pets is cathartic for me and helps release stress. So even if I am busy I always look forward to seeing a furry friend at the end of the day :)

When pet sitting I always try to keep in mind that a day for you and I is about a week for your pet. That is why it is so important that I try to make each moment with your pet special. I know it is stressful for both owners and pets to be away from one another, so I like to keep owners updated with any highlights from the day and photos. For pets, I give extra pets, treats, and playtime to make the feel more comfortable around me hopefully ease their anxieties.

Information Catherine V. would like to know about your pet

It is important that I know about your pets temperament and socialization before I start pet sitting. I have sat for highly social dogs who love other dogs, people, and pets. I have also sat for more reserved dogs who are not social with others and do not like much physical contact. Either end of the spectrum I feel equipped to deal with, just let me know in advance. Similarly if your dog needs any medication, has special needs, goes to daycare, or has any other relevant quirks, just let me know ahead of time.

A typical day

As a grad student my typical weekday is dedicated to going to class and work, however I always try to find a way to make time for pets. Since school and work can start to feel monotonous its important for me to stay active by taking your pets on walks (I like to try new routes everyday) or playing at the park. If your dog is extra energetic fetch is a must! If your pet is more low-key games are a great way to keep them busy (treats in cardboard paper towel rolls, or pattern games are my favorite). I also think hanging around pets and relaxing is important. Sitting on the couch for movie night or lounging around reading are the perfect cuddling opportunities.

Pet care experience

I have 10 years of experience sitting for dogs, cats, as well as other pets like hermit crabs, rats, guinea pigs and fish. I am very adaptable to the needs of you and your pet! I am a bit of an introvert myself so I do well with less-social pets but I love having the opportunity to care for a social butterfly to bring me out of my box as well. Additionally, I have experience sitting for both elderly and young pets. I have a soft spot for our greying furry friends and love to give them extra affection for all their years. On the other hand, I know from personal experience with my family's own high-energy dog how to keep up with the young ones. No matter what stage of their lives your pet is at or their personality I can guarantee to meet their needs.

Cate did a fantastic job caring for our cat, who needs medical attention. She was attentive, reliable, and clearly very comfortable handling special care needs. It gave us real peace of mind knowing our cat was in such capable and compassionate hands. Communication was great, and we came home to a happy, well-cared-for cat. We would absolutely book Cate again and highly recommend her—especially for pets who need a little extra care.
