I work from home 99% of the time, which allows me to be present and attentive throughout the day. I live near the lakes and enjoy getting outside for walks, as well as spending time in my backyard for supervised play time. I like a balance of activity and downtime keeping pets company in a calm environment. I occasionally have evening activities lasting for a few hours at a time but even on these days can provide reliable and consistent feeding and potty breaks. A dog who is comfortable with a present companion but can tolerate several hours home alone for errands or occasional outings would be suitable.

Safety, trust & environment

I keep a clean, pet-friendly home and make safety a top priority. I follow each pet’s routine closely, including feeding, walks, and any special instructions. I’m attentive and present while pets are in my care, and I make sure they feel comfortable, relaxed, and well looked after. I also stay communicative so owners feel confident and updated. For safety when unsupervised, dogs that are comfortable in a gated off area or crated is helpful. I do have plants and some areas I prefer to keep dogs away from if I step out, so knowing if your dog tends to be particularly curious helps me plan ahead!

Information Catherine H. would like to know about your pet

Knowing how your pet does when left alone is important for me to know. While I do work from home, I live alone and step out periodically for errands or occasional outings. I do have experience with elderly dogs, dogs on daily medications, and mild behavioral concerns. However, if your dog has significant medical or behavioral considerations such as reactivity with dogs or people, severe separation anxiety, or an intensive medication schedule, I would recommend seeking a more specialized sitter to ensure they are equipped for your dogs needs.

A typical day

I hope your dog likes walks, I walk daily and love getting out in the neighborhood. There are lots of walkers and other dogs and we are close to a lake with a walking path. Plenty of fun areas to sniff and explore. At home, there is plenty of time for play (inside and in the backyard tossing a ball or a toy) for dogs who need to get their energy out. For dogs who like to lounge, I have no shortage of doggie snuggles coming their way. I also have a large front bay window that provides ample visual stimulation for dogs who like to supervise the neighborhood activities!

Caring for pets like they’re family

Pet care experience

I’ve been around animals my whole life, and caring for them has always come naturally to me. In the past, I’ve had two rescue dogs and two cats of my own, so I’m comfortable with different breeds, personalities, and needs (including a geriatric dog with medication needs). I’m used to keeping pets on a schedule and helping them feel safe and settled. My “why” is simple: I love animals, all of them. At a party, you’ll probably find me on the floor with the resident house dog or making friends with the cat in the corner, and I never miss an opportunity to pet a friendly sidewalk pup. Since I don’t currently have a pet of my own, I’m seeking to spend more time with animals and help care for them while their owners are away. My lifestyle is best suited for dogs who are comfortable with routines, not aggressive, or extremely high energy. I will provide regular exercise and playtime, but I also enjoy dogs that can settle and relax in between. I’ve also helped care for friends’ and family’s dogs over the years, and I’ve volunteered on a goat farm and an equine therapy program, which gave me experience working with a variety of animals and temperaments. Overall, I aim to be patient, attentive, and reliable, and to care for pets as thoughtfully as possible. I always appreciated good communication when my pets were being cared for and I intend to provide you with the same peace of mind

This was way better than boarding with a facility and I would definitely do it again. Catherine was wonderful, she sent updates 2x daily with photos and I can just see that my pup felt at home and cozied up to her which made me feel completely at ease and happy. Leaving your pup with someone else can be stressful but I didn’t feel worried with Catherine at all. I will only be booking with her in the future if possible. Thank you Catherine for being so lovely with Fezco and I can see he misses you.

I’m happy to recommend Catherine as a pet caregiver. She had many pets growing up and participated in programs riding and caring for horses. She has cared for her own animals, including two rescue dogs and two rescue cats, one of the dogs with territory issues and the other with separation anxiety. She worked with them to feel safe and comfortable so that they were able to adjust. She cared for a geriatric, blind dog while the owner was on vacation. With her military and nursing background, she is very meticulous and detail oriented. Because she works from home and enjoys being active, she is able to give pets plenty of attention, exercise, and companionship. I’m confident in her ability to care for any pet and know she will treat them with genuine care and kindness
