I booked Carlos for overnight house sitting while I was traveling internationally with my husband. Before the booking, I told him he was welcome to leave for 3–4 hours if needed, did a pre-meet with the dogs, provided care videos and instructions. We unfortunately had several incidents that caused extreme concern. On one night, he accidentally fell asleep at his own house after a fundraiser and was gone for approximately eight hours overnight - he returned to the house around 4a after I called him. I only discovered he wasn’t at my home because I checked my dog cameras after receiving a neighbor complaint about overnight barking and saw my dog had remained crated for an extended period. Carlos did return immediately once I reached him and apologized. However, the lack of communication during an overnight booking caused an enormous amount of stress while I was out of the country in the middle of the night (2a my time) with no one else able to access my home. After returning home, we also discovered multiple unreported urine accidents inside the house, learned that Blue had been having accidents during the stay that were never communicated to us, and found a leather shoe that had been chewed with a missing section that still has not been located. As a result, our dog now requires veterinary evaluation to ensure he did not ingest the missing material, and likely to be tested for a UTI as a medically complex, imunosuppressed dog. If we had been notified of either of these issues sooner, we have plans set in place to be able to get additional medication or care to the house if needed, trying to make it as easy as possible on the sitter. While I appreciate that Carlos was apologetic and kind, reliability and communication are the foundation of overnight pet care. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend him for overnight bookings.
