Pet care experience
Experienced Sitter & Vet Assistant
Hi, my name is Carissa! I am experienced in caring for many animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and even farm animals. I owned an operated an open-play dog boarding and daycare facility in Southern California for five years (from 2014 through 2019) serving over 300 furry clients- all different sizes and personalities. (My old Facebook page with reviews can be seen on facebook by searching CarissaBennettCanineCare). Since moving back to my home-state of Michigan I worked as a veterinary assistant for two years in a general practice clinic, and am able to confidently provide first aid, as well as administer oral, topical, and injectable medications to pets in my care. Additionally, I am comfortable with caring for senior and special needs pets. I love all animals like family and would love the opportunity to care for your furbaby while you are away!

Ratings and reviews
I met Carissa during a time when I really needed someone to be able to lovingly interact with one of my 3 dogs that was very skittish. He had not had a good stay at the place we had been using and due to him not feeling comfortable and very terrified, I was determined to find a home away from home to care for my dogs as needed in the future. I spoke with Carissa on the phone about my skittish Australian/lab pup and after hearing how caring and confident she was to provide a safe and loving environment for him, I decided to visit with my 3 dogs to get to know her personally. That was the beginning of a 6 year relationship of sharing my fur babies with her. She cared for Benny (my skittish dog), Lola my Malinois, and Teddy my Terrier mix during our family trips and holidays. The dogs enjoyed Carissa and her family as a second family and I really enjoyed receiving pictures of all the fun they were having and how much love they were receiving while we were away. Since she moved away from CA, we have not been able to find anyone who can provide the kind of care that she gave to my fur babies. It was truly extraordinary and a gift. We still stay in touch. We truly became “extended family” through the love and care she showered upon my dogs. I cannot recommend her enough!

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
Your pet would have tons of love in our home, with access to all living spaces and our large fenced-in yard. We currently have 1 indoor/outdoor kitty, but our chocolate lab recently passed away, so no pups in the home at this time.
A typical day
One thing I have learned in all my years of dog care- a tired dog is a good dog :) I love staying active with the pups in my care. We will go for lots of walks, play with their favorite toys, or romp in the backyard. Of course, if your pet has physical limitations, snuggles are great too!

- I would love to know a little about your pet’s temperament, how they have adjusted to new environments (if they have stayed overnight outside the home), and of course if your pet has any medical conditions, special needs, and if they will require medications, supplements, or dietary restrictions. It is also helpful to know if your pet is aloof with new people, an escape artist, or looks at fences like- “challenge accepted”. None of these are deal-breakers, it’s is just helpful to be aware of so I can take extra precautions as necessary to ensure their comfort and safety :)
