Happy Hounds in Downtown Cary
A lifelong dog lover, I've rescued, trained, and welcomed dogs into my family and hosted a variety of dog breeds for friends, neighbors, and family members. I primarily offer boarding for house-trained, socialized dogs that are comfortable in a family home with fenced-in yard and four-legged (silly pittie) host. Close to Maynard Pond and the Downtown Cary Park, your pup can enjoy interesting walks around a serene pond or along safe sidewalks in a residential neighborhood. (Note: For stays 5 nights or longer, I charge a $50 rate and I appreciate tips!) Your pup will be welcomed in my home and made to feel part of the family!

Ratings and reviews
Cara was great! Lily seemed to have an amazing time!! She sent lots of pictures and provided updates throughout her stay.

As always, Zelda had a great stay at Camp Cara! Thanks - we’ll be back!

Cara was great and did a great job with our active Golden!

Second visit with Cara and Rosey! Koozie was so excited when I dropped her off I didn’t think she’d want to come home later. We have many more trips planned and will continue to use Cara!! She’s a gem!!

Cara and Rosey were fantastic! Koozie was well cared for and Cara sent pictures daily and shared cute stories. We’re so excited to find our “unicorn” to take care of our girl while we travel. We’ll be using her every time we go out of town!

Cara has a perfect house and yard for doggies near downtown Cary. It is a puppy paradise and daisy is the sweetest! Cara has a lot of love and experience with taking care of dogs. Everything went perfectly!

Schedule
Based in the heart of downtown Cary, I mostly work from home, thus am able to visit your pet during day (and evening) hours. My dog (Rosey) loves other dogs, so if your dog is socialized and housetrained, I am glad to provide boarding services. Your dog can enjoy walks around a safe neighborhood. Pups preferring more solitude may like a stroll around Maynard Pond where they can watch geese and see turtles. More urban dogs may like the sounds and sights that come with a walk through the Downtown Cary Park. Or, your pup is welcome to lounge on my couches and see Cary from the comfort of an office window.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
After letting pup(s) outside in my fenced yard for a potty break, we'll have breakfast and go on our first walk of the day. As often as needed, I can take your pup outside into my fenced back yard to throw toys, play chase, or just get the zoomies out with my dog, Rosey. When preparing to go out and about, we will leash up in my backyard and exit the fenced-area through a double-gated access corridor. This ensures we are all ready and properly leashed before heading for each walk. During a stay, your pup is allowed to roam through the house (only 1500 square feet so I'll know what they are doing), lounge on couches, and even sleep on human beds if desired. I can also provide a crate for puppies or dogs that may prefer a contained space. The human inhabitants (3 of us) adore dogs and will eagerly welcome your dog and make them feel at home. Related, there is almost always someone at home which can be helpful for dogs that have anxiety. Your four-legged host, Rosey, is also most happy when another canine kind is in her house.

A typical day
My days begin early with strong coffee and letting pup(s) outside in my fenced yard for a potty break. After breakfast, they will accompany me on a walk. Depending on the day's schedule, pups can hang with me in my home office that offers a window-view of Walnut Street along with floor space for snoozing. As often as needed, we will go out into the fenced yard to throw toys, play chase, or just get the zoomies out with my dog, Rosey. I greet and talk to pets, frequently pet them, and make sure they get outside (dogs) often for potty breaks, exercise, and lounging in the sun weather permitting. Having lived in Seattle, I don't shy away from walking in the rain. No matter what's happening with North Carolina weather, you can be confident that your pup will get plenty of fresh air! In the evenings, I'm happy to have dogs join me on the couch for reading or tv time. They are also welcome to sleep in my bedroom.
