The first thing I do as a part of my routine is to feed and water all the animals in my care, and do a welfare check on them. (I repeat as needed throughout the day) Then I let the dogs out for their bathroom and exercise break, and sprinkle pet care throughout my day, amid my part-time work and other regular activities. I've mastered the art of predator-prey behavior management so all the creatures have their needs met. Playing games of "chase the string or the laser" with our cats, harnessing our husky cross to the wagon to take the garbage out to the bins, making her pull the wagon and voice-command training her for everyone's greatest joy. Then there are the quiet times when we just hang out and enjoy each-other's company, working in the kitchen or office, or taking a few minutes of downtime for petting and brushing, then it's off to camping, gardening, reading, hiking and other fun discovery adventures together.

Safety, trust & environment

Our dogs and cats are free-feeding, they ask for the door with their body language and we are prompt to let them in/out as requested. The cats stay indoors at all times. The dogs have a 8'X14' outdoor run that gets cleaned regularly and it has a dedicated door, so they can go potty and get exercise on-demand. They have multiple beds and shelters to choose from, with plenty of shade. The whole yard if fenced with a 7' tall wood fence, and the gate locks for safety. Our yard is beautifully landscaped with raised garden boxes, flower beds, fruit orchard and a fish pond. The dogs are allowed supervised games of fetch and catch-me-if-you-can in the yard (on leash for water-loving dogs to protect the pond's delicate environment. I'm the warm months we keep a dog pool for cooling off. The dogs are kept quiet, as barking is discouraged using verbal commands. I provide a safe and enriching environment for our pets and our guests, with safety as our baseline for every action.

Information BRIGITTE R. would like to know about your pet

I need to know what lifestyle and training methods the pets are accustomed to, what they are and are not allowed to do, if they have fears, food aggression, likes and dislikes, bad habits and other quirks. I'm an experienced trainer, so I can assess and help work on issues, I also provide owner education as part of the comprehensive care for each pet I work for. I can administer medication on schedule, and provide extra services like grooming and training for a small fee.

A typical day

Waking up early to do my pet chores, eating, then a variety of household chores, walking, gardening, sewing, visiting friends and local areas. Each day is a bit different, I like variety. We always ensure our guests are feeling good, keeping their physical and mental health at the forefront of our care and activities.

Pet care experience

A lifetime animal lover and caretaker, I bred, raised, trained and managed a variety of animals in my lifetime. I gained the trust of animals that had a traumatic experience, I trained puppies and horses to reach their full potential, I worked on Canadian horse racing circuits, gained crucial animal behavior and reproduction knowledge, I provide exceptional care for all creatures, small and big, from rodents, reptiles, birds, ruminants equids and more. I'm working on creating an animal care course for beginners in the future.

Brigette was absolutely amazing with Cookie! From the moment we arrived, she was so welcoming and made sure Cookie felt comfortable right away. She took the time to show us all the areas where Cookie would be staying, which gave us so much peace of mind. She took Cookie for a walk and sent us video updates of her playing happily with her dogs — it was so reassuring to see how much fun she was having and how well she was being cared for. We felt completely confident leaving Cookie with Brigette and would definitely use her again.

Brigette was awesome! We were looking for someone on extremely short notice and she was able to accommodate. Our dog had not been left at anyone’s house before so we were very appreciative of the updates and pictures, made us feel more at ease. Would definitely use Brigitte again. Thank you!

In the beginning we were nervous about getting a dog sitter for our girl. But Brigitte was amazing! She helped me feel comfortable at the drop off and she kept me updated on our girl throughout the entire sitting. Inside her home was clean and the outside was clean and safe as well. Our dog, who is an only pet, came home happy and tired. She napped the day away and I'm sure she was dreaming about her new friends at Brigitte's place. Thank you Brigitte and family, we will most definitely be returning our business to you!
