I always make sure to be careful when opening doors as to not let animals into areas they arent supposed to be in or accidentally getting out when they shouldn't be. I am well aware of plenty of hiding places for critters to go and can intuitively find them. I am also always careful where I walk in case your buddy likes to get underfoot!
