I bring a lifetime of experience and a deep passion for dogs to every pet I care for. As an experienced mobility and PTSD service dog trainer and puppy raiser, I specialize in raising and training puppies from 8 weeks old, guiding them to become confident, well-mannered companions. My journey began at a young age, learning from my grandfather, a search-and-rescue bloodhound trainer, where I honed my skills in understanding and shaping canine behavior. I'm also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Training (APDT International). I use R+ (positive reinforcement) methods to motivate and teach dogs, focusing on rewards like food, touch, eye contact, attention, and play to encourage positive behaviors. This approach not only builds trust but also helps dogs learn in a way that’s fun and enriching. Some of my key skills and expertise include: - Puppy socialization: Exposing puppies to various people, animals, environments, and stimuli to help them develop confidence and learn appropriate behaviors. - Senior dog care: Providing tailored care and support for older dogs with mobility or health challenges. - Behavioral support: Addressing challenges with patience and consistent guidance. - Small breeds and special needs care: Decades of experience caring for dachshunds and dogs with unique requirements or medical needs. This includes dogs living with blindness, health issues or physical disabilities. What truly sets me apart is my dedication to not just caring for pets, but helping create a better future for them and their families with the hope of improving their and your quality of life. I work closely with owners to ensure their pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved, while offering helpful tips to build stronger relationships and training partnerships. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my highest priorities, whether they’re staying in my home or I’m caring for them in yours. I provide a secure, nurturing environment tailored to your pet’s unique needs and preferences. - In My Home: My home features a fenced-in yard, perfect for safe play and outdoor time. I have experience with crate training, so if your pet is crate-trained or needs to start the process, I can ensure it’s a positive and comfortable experience. Puppies in training will receive attentive care and consistent reinforcement to help them thrive. This sometimes includes special overnight care (or multiple crate breaks over the course of an evening or into the late night) to ensure consistency and positive outcomes, depending on the puppy's age and stage in training. Because I raise and train mobility and PTSD service dogs for veterans, I may sometimes have a dog or puppy (exclusively labrador retrievers) in my care that I am raising with this mission in mind. This dog or puppy could be anywhere from 2 years old or younger, but will always be extremely dog- and people-friendly! If there are any concerns about this, I can also address them in advance with you one-on-one before we work together and I have the ability to keep the service dog in training separate from your pet if that's necessary or requested. - In Your Home: When caring for pets in your home, I strive to maintain their routine to ensure they feel comfortable and secure. I bring the same level of attention and care as I would in my own home, treating your space with respect and keeping your pet’s well-being as my top priority. For all services, I focus on creating a safe, calm, and positive environment, whether it’s structured training sessions, playtime, or relaxation. You can trust that your pet will feel loved, cared for, and supported in my care. Together, we’ll work to provide them with the best experience possible!
