Pet care experience

Your pets comfort is my priority.

I have over six years of experience with taking care of pets. I also can, and am willing, to take care of different types of animals. Although most of my experience is with dogs and cats, I have also worked with chickens, hamsters, chinchillas, turtles, ducks, fish, and even a crab. I checked on farm animals. I have never had to care for them but I am more than happy too. I grew up with a love for animals, and with extended family owning many different types of animals, including birds, horses, mules, chickens, etc. I have devoted a lot of time to research about animals, especially dogs. I did training and obedience competitions with my dog when I was younger. I grew up reading books about dogs until I was older and could access the internet, where I then searched though there for any information I could find. I have learned so many things from being a pet sitter as well. I have met so many different pets, and pet owners. I've been faced with many different situations as well. I have taken care of diabetic animals that require insulin injections. I've given many different animals medications, like anti anxiety meds, thyroid meds, etc. I can measure out doses with no issues. I have taken care of animals with aggression issues. I have taken care of animals that have health issues that cause frequent accidents, either from old age or another condition. I am capable of splitting up dog fights, and have. I am also aware of how to prevent dog fights. I have worked with deaf animals, blind animals, and physically and neurologically handicapped animals. I can and have worked with any size of dog. I am not a small person and I do my best to stay strong so I can handle any pet. I have visited, and stayed in, many different kinds of homes and apartments. I am comfortable with staying in many different conditions/places. Animals are more comfortable when the one taking care of them is also calm and comfortable. I have handled animals during bad weather as well. I have been in situations where I have had to take shelter with the pets that I am caring for. Even navigating flooding, snow storms, tornados, and thunder storms. In the winter, during heavy snow fall, you will still see me on the roads going safely from house to house. You may even see me digging a path for my car. I try to be prepared for any situations. Carrying the necessary gear with me to handle any situation. I am comfortable driving animals places as well. I have picked animals up from vets, and groomers. I have taken animals to parks (upon owner request). I have even delivered a dog to a wedding so it would be there for photos, and then take it back home after. If you need any kind of assistance with your pet, talk to me. I am more than happy to help if I am available.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

The care I give to a pet depends on the pets needs and what the owner books. I can do overnight stays, drop in visits, walks, and during the day stays. I get information about the pets needs and lifestyle through meet and greets, and I try to match that to the best of my ability. I think it is crucial for me, when taking care of animals, to understand the pet, but to also be calm and confident in everything I do.

I will ask most important questions during meet and greets, but here are some things to think of so that you are best able to answer those questions. I need to know the basics, so things like, where the food is, when the pet typically eats. I need to understand routines and if there is any flexibility with it. I need to understand your pets temperament, both the good and bad. I need to know if your dog is reactive. I need to know if they have any bite history. I will still watch your pet despite any behavioral issues, I just need to know about them. Even if the dogs behavior has changed and they are better behaved now, I still need to know the history. The rest would be information about your home or apartment. If there's anything that I need to maintain. For example, If there is a storm or a power outage, I need to know if there's anything I need to do or bring inside. Some people worry about giving me too much information about their pets. That is not something you need to worry about. I would much rather have lots of information then end up in a situation where I don't have the information I need. The more information the better. On the flip side though, if you don't have the time or energy to write a lot of information, that is also okay. I can still do my job just fine with a post it note.
