As a retired teacher, I am flexible to care for pets any day of the week. I am also willing to stay overnight in your home and be your pet’s companion. I still have a cat of my own on whom I like to check at some point each day if staying nights at another pet owner’s home. Sometimes the owners I serve are away for 7-15 days at a time. I will send daily updates and pictures as well during your absence.

Safety, trust & environment

I have been providing care for pets in the owners’ homes. I therefore water and feed the cats and dogs and administer pills, if needed. I clean litter boxes and tidy up, making sure pet hair, etc. is cleaned up. I get the mail and take out trash. I play/cuddle with the cats and exercise/play/cuddle with the dogs. I love to walk so I never get enough of walking dogs. I take extra precautions if dogs are anxious when I have to leave for a while, i.e., leave music or TV playing or do something special with the dogs before I leave. The dogs usually sleep in the bed with me and we become great friends.

Information Betty F. would like to know about your pet

I grew up with cats and dogs and have owned dogs as an adult into their senior years. I have also taken each dog I’ve owned to a series of training classes. Hence, I am experienced and well-versed with different behaviors, separation anxiety, and leash walking. I will still want to know of your dog’s training, what difficulties I need to look out for with your senior dog or cat, and what quirks your pet might have so that I am prepared. Do they like other animals or children we may meet on walks? Do they like to ride in the car? Will they try to bolt out the door when it opens? Are they shy or easily stressed? Is there any particular leash behavior I need to know about? Do they need to take medication? I will also need to know your emergency contact information and your vet’s information. We will need to work out how I should access your home with keys or access codes. I will set up a meet and greet appointment so that I can meet you and your pet and we can go over this information to ensure a safe and happy visit.

A typical day

When dog and/or cat parents are away, I usually make overnight house and pet sitting arrangements. I will make sure your special pet is fed, according to your instructions, and will change water, clean the bowls, and brush/clean pets as needed. I also administer medications. For cats, I keep the litter boxes clean and will trim claws and clean ears, if requested. The pets and I cuddle and play games, sometimes with toys. We can play fetch or any other game your dog likes. My drop-in visits are usually for 30 minutes. I will feed them and walk them in your neighborhood. I took each dog I have owned to a series of training classes and am well-versed on behaviors, training techniques and separation anxiety. If house/pet sitting, I will also collect the mail, water plants, feed birds and fish, take out trash, and tidy up as needed, especially when there is a good bit of pet hair accumulating. I make sure your fur babies get the attention and companionship they need and ensure they are safe, happy, well-fed, and exercised.

Pet care experience

I retired from teaching 4 years ago and have been caring for pets in their homes, cleaning litter boxes and taking dogs out for exercise during that time. I have personally owned 2 large dogs well into their senior years. I have had cats my entire life and still have one. I typically take care of cats and dogs when their owners are away; feeding, administering pills, cleaning litter boxes, exercising/playing with dogs, and playing/cuddling with cats. I believe these visits have been the most rewarding activities of my life.

Betty is wonderful. We are repeat customers and always feel at ease with Betty taking care of our boys (dog and cat) as well as our house. The boys are happy and healthy when we return and the house is in order. She sends pictures and comments daily which is nice. She is great about taking our dog for daily walks, something we count on.

Betty was an amazing companion for Elvis while we were away!! She was so good about sending pictures every day and keeping us updated on what he was up to. She also looked after the house and handled mail, a repairman, garbage collection, etc. I will definitely be using Betty again and again!!
