Hola! Hello! Bonjour! I've been around animals my whole life. Growing up in Puerto Rico, my brother constantly brought home strays and rescues — dogs, cats, iguanas, ferrets, anything he could find. My mom, ironically a certified vet assistant, developed allergies, so we became caretakers. I've looked after everything from Chihuahuas and Great Danes to Tabbies and the oh-so-lovable marmalade cats. My best friend's Pomeranian Daisy hated everyone. She would hear the door, run under a chair and bark non-stop. A few visits in, she got excited to see me and would come running to the door mid-bark. I never force contact. I let each animal set the pace and give them their space if that's what they need, adapting to them rather than the other way around. One of the pets closest to my heart was Ölva, a blind and deaf senior dog with dementia. She taught me a different kind of patience — staying hyper-aware that she wasn't always aware of what was happening around her, and moving through our time together gently and predictably so she always felt safe. Since I could never keep a pet myself, I learned to love them fully in the time I do get, and I stay calm under pressure if anything unexpected comes up.
