Pet care experience

Dog person for life

I have been around dogs all my life and have had my own dogs for 15+ years. I'm currently in a program to become a professional dog trainer and plan to have my own boarding/training business in the near future. I have raised and trained my own dogs from puppyhood and have had dogs through all stages of their lives. I have experience with multiple areas of training including obedience, conditioning, scentwork, agility, and more, and I have taken my own dog thru the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen), CGC Urban, and Community Canine tests. In the past I have done dog walking and drop-ins for many satisfied customers as you can see in my reviews, and now I am offering daycare and boarding for a limited number of dogs. I can also do drop-ins for the Barefoot Lakes area of Firestone -- if you live in this area and need drop-in care please feel free to contact me!

Ben was great with my dog. He shared pictures and updates with me frequently throughout my dog's stay. My dog was well taken care of, and was happy that he got to play with his new friends.

We couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! Ben took such great care of our dog while we were away and kept us updated with photos and messages throughout his stay. It was obvious from the updates that he was having a great time and was well cared for. Knowing how he was doing and hearing about his interactions with the other pups gave us so much peace of mind while traveling. We are incredibly grateful for the care and attention he provided and would not hesitate to book with him again. Highly recommend!

Ben took such amazing care of my dog! I truly couldn’t have asked for a better person to watch him while we were away. He kept us updated with plenty of photos, videos, and messages, which gave us so much peace of mind. It means a lot knowing my dog is in such great hands when I’m out of town. We’ll definitely be using Ben again for future trips!

Ben did an amazing job watching my dog, Howard! He sent a lot of pictures, communicated often, and really cares for every animal he watches. He makes sure they have a fun and stress-free time away from home!

Ben is great! He really focuses on what each dog needs while they are in his care. He provides owners with excellent communication and pictures throughout the stay. Ben was our go-to before we moved out of town and would recommend him to anyone that needs a dog sitter.

Schedule

I work from home and mostly make my own schedule so I can focus on your dog(s). In general I'll be home all day and available to watch them all day. In the event I have to leave for any reason, I will put the dogs into crates or into fenced playpen areas until I return. I don't allow the dogs to roam freely in the house while I'm away, so any dogs that stay with me must be crate-trained.

Safety, trust & environment

I have had experience with dogs of all sizes, dogs that pull, dogs that are shy, dogs with leash aggression or otherwise poor impulse control. I have experience with all types of equipment from flat collars to gentle leaders to prong collars to Flexi leashes -- whatever your dog needs to have a safe & calm walk. I prefer to walk dogs on the equipment that they are used to, but if your dog is an excessive puller or otherwise feels unsafe for me or for themselves then I may suggest different equipment for them. Dogs must be house-trained and crate-trained and must be good with other dogs. I work from home so dogs will rarely be in crates for any extended period, but on the occasion I do need to leave for some reason they need to be capable of being left alone in a crate for a while. I will take dogs of any age, but they must be house-trained -- if you have a small puppy that still requires house training please let me know and we can discuss options.

A typical day

I want your dogs to do what makes them happy! I live in an area with multiple walking trails and lakes so there's plenty of good walking to be had and I have a fenced yard so (weather-permitting) we will spend as much time outside as possible. I have some agility equipment that can be set up in a pinch if your dog is keen on running over jumps and thru tunnels and of course there's always fetch and playing with other dogs to be done. If the weather is uncooperative, then I have a large space in the basement for dogs to roam and play and plenty of toys and puzzles to keep them occupied. I prefer to give dogs a variety of options and let them decide what to do on their own -- some will bring me a toy to play with, some will want to play my dog, some will just curl up on a bed or the couch. In general I only intervene if the dog is getting into trouble, playing too rough, or otherwise needs assistance of some kind.
