Safety, trust & environment

The safety and well being of your pet is my first priority. You’ll never see me scrolling through TikTok while walking a dog or otherwise disengaged- my eyes and ears are always on them to ensure they are getting the best of our time together. Dogs are always leashed while outside the home property (unless authorized for enclosed dog park play) and pets will only be allowed in areas approved by owners. For feline visits- playtime, cuddle time, and social engagement are always included. I won’t just fill the food bowl and leave, I’ll entice them into chasing toys, or offer up a lap for warmth, comfort, and soothing pets. If they are scared of strangers (like mine is) I’ll simply sit quietly with them, letting them know they’re safe and never force an interaction that makes them anxious or uncomfortable.

Information Avery C. would like to know about your pet

I will always ask for each pet’s dietary guidelines, current medications, and health/vaccination status, as well as any behavioral issues, separation anxiety, temperament or reactivity levels around other animals, and any safety concerns or special needs. After that, I want to know their individual personality! What makes them unique and special and the rock star of the family? What is their favorite treat or toy or game, and how can I best help you and them be happy and content while you’re away. Note: While house-sitting, plant watering and taking in the mail are included. Taking pets to grooming or vet appointments can be added for a small additional fee.

A typical day

I love taking leisurely hikes on the trails along the Arroyo Seco and short runs through the neighborhood with more active dogs that need to burn off energy. I’m also a science geek and book nerd who shares her home & her heart with a beloved scaredy cat, and I'm happy to curl up and read a few chapters next to your furry feline.

Certified Animal Handler/Caregiver

Pet care experience

Former vet tech, certified animal handler, and experienced pet-sitter seeks fluffy neighborhood furballs in need of extra attention!! Whether your pup needs a walk or your cat needs a cuddle- I’ve got you. I’m available for drop-ins, day hikes, and overnight pet sitting in the comfort of your home (the least stressful option for your pet while you’re away). I know that many animals don’t do well (or simply can’t be) boarded, but busy lives mean we often need to leave them behind when we travel or work long hours. I’m here to offer you peace of mind knowing they’ll be safe & sound in their own home, being looked after with the upmost of professional care, love, and attention. I’ve been petsitting for private clients and friends furever- see what I did there 😀. I spent many years living in places where I wanted, but wasn't allowed, to have pets, so spoiling other's was the next best thing. I also grew up in a home full of pets and my first job as a kid was volunteering for the local animal shelter. I went on to train professionally as an animal handler for film & television and to work as an emergency triage and surgical veterinary assistant. I cherish every opportunity to get to know a new animal of any kind, and to help them feel safe & secure, loved, and respected by another human. I have years of experience and expertise working with animals of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments, from teeny tiny kittens needing bottle feeding every hour, to senior pups on special diets, diabetic felines, giant lazy lap dogs, pampered dachshunds, wild terriers, loving pit bulls, timid house cats, and random rescues still in need of training. *All pets in my care must be current on vaccines AND preventative flea treatments. Please contact me if you need a reliable, responsible, professional petsitter with years of experience and a genuine love for animals. I offer 30-60 minute neighborhood walks, hour-long nature hikes for active dogs, shorter drop-ins, play-time visits, care and feeding for felines and full service pet/plant/house sitting in Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino and close neighboring cities. If you need services outside these areas please message me for a quote. Please note: All overnights (for dogs) include two walks and at least 1-2 shorter potty-breaks during the day. However, if you have a dog still in its "puppy stage" (regardless of age), a pet that is not fully housebroken, or a senior dog with special needs that requires more frequent outings, please message me with full details so I can provide you a more accurate quote. Thank you!

Avery is a wonderful dog sitter, it was a very reassuring knowing our old boy Kahu was in such good hands while we were in Japan. She sent us lots of photos and updates and was very observant of Kahu's needs, noticing he had an issue with his paw and nail which she treated. She looked after our house too. We're so glad to have found a dog sitter we trust so much!

Avery has stayed with our chug, Ernie, several times—she's amazing and I can't recommend her enough! She's great with Big Ern and expertly handles him and his dog reactivity while out on walks. She sends regular updates and pictures, is punctual and responsive, and is always respectful of our home and our neighbors. You never have to worry with Avery at the helm!

So grateful for Avery jumping in at the last minute to spend a day with our pup after he had surgery. It was very appreciated being able to go to work and know someone was at home to care for him and be a calming presence while he recovers.
