When I had a dog me and my family members split up the responsibilities between us as we all grew up. Taking her on walks, letting her outside into the backyard, picking up after her, playing with her, taking her on play dates when visiting family and friends who also had dogs. As she grew up though many of these things had to be adjusted to her aging abilities and our time availability but even then we made it work. On the occasion I pet sit I try to learn as much about the pets from their owners about their habits, likes and dislikes, and appetites that way I can cater to the pet as best I can. Before I try to care for them I also try to sit down with the pet and owner to best earn their trust and get them used to me especially if my caring for them will be longer than just a single occasion that way I can try not to scare them.

What’s their usual schedule like? What toys/activities are their favorites? If you need me to feed them when I’m there what are the specific details of their food/eating habits? Do they have special needs?(i.e. oral/topical medication they are actively taking? Psychological or physical issues I would need to watch for? Are they just on the older side and sometimes require a bit of extra help getting around/doing things?) If they enjoy watching TV or listening to music what do they like?(if you want me to leave something on for them for after I leave if you aren’t home)
A typical day
On any given day a dog could have a differing energy level to what I have experienced with them previously and I’d work around it to see what your pet is up to doing, running around, playing with toys, just sitting getting pets and kisses. I would decide what to do based off of what all I can perceive they have the energy for and act accordingly.

Pet care experience
I grew up with a dog of mixed breed as well as visiting family and friends regularly who had dogs. On multiple occasions I’ve helped family and friends(and friends of family) with the caretaking of their pets whether it was momentarily or temporarily long term. I’ve taken care of dogs, cats, and even a chameleon, a snake, and a tarantula on one occasion. I have experience with both outwardly friendly animals as well as more skittish pets. I’ve cleaned up animal vomit on multiple occasions off of tile, wood flooring, and out of carpet and fabric so be assured that if anything happens as long as you have the supplies I can and will be able to clean up after your furry family.
