For drop-in visits and house sitting, I am able stay at the client's home so pets can stay in their own familiar environment, following their normal routine as closely as possible for feeding, medication, and playtime. I make sure doors, gates, and any outdoor areas are secure before letting pets outside. For dog walks, I keep dogs leashed at all times for their safety and use secure leash handling techniques, similar to what animal shelters require of their volunteers. I always check that collars and harnesses fit properly before heading out and keeping a firm, controlled grip to prevent slipping or bolting. For cats, I make sure litter boxes are scooped and cleaned on schedule so their space stays comfortable, and I always follow the specific food, water, and feeding routine the owner sets. Both cats and dogs need companionship even when they're independent, so I spend time with them each visit, whether that's playtime, petting, or just sitting with them so they don't feel alone while their owner is away. I pay close attention to any changes in behavior or appetite and let owners know right away if anything seems off. I follow any specific instructions owners give me exactly, and I send photo updates during visits, so owners know their pet is safe and comfortable while they're away.
