Pet care experience

Animal lovers are the best lovers!

I spend most of my time between Bristol, Hereford, London and Sheffield and I provide pet-sitting services nationwide. I grew up with dogs, border collies and jack russell terriers, in the north of England. 20 years in the London rat race (project management) and 12 years of meditation, travel and independent study later... animals are back in my life and taking centre stage, at least for now! I returned from 3 years living in India in July 2024 and have been pet-sitting for the majority of the time since then. I've had the good fortune to meet a vast array of quirky characters along the way, four-legged and two-legged alike! Making new friends all the time! I've had cockapoo puppies, lazy old hounds, adolescent staffies, cheeky pugs, rescued terriers, OAP shih tsus, anxious chinese cresteds and a whole host of super cool cats to keep me on my toes... I've never been happier! I am currently working on a terrifying writing project and immersed in research for the foreseeable future. This keeps me at home most of the time so your beloved furry/scaly/feathery friends will have plenty of company and attention.

Safety, trust & environment

I have spent the last year caring for dogs and cats in their own homes, and this is the service I offer here. Dogs and cats benefit immensely from being in their own environment and having consistency in their daily routine. I recommend conducting a full consultation, either in person or via VC, before committing to a sit. I will have many questions about your loved ones, such as behavioural issues, medical history, likes/dislikes, routine, preferences for play, do's and don'ts, etc. Whenever possible, I prefer to spend a few hours with you and your pets before you leave, just to help them feel at ease after your departure and to ensure I know everything I need to know. My iCloud storage is bursting at the seams with photos and videos of dogs and cats in myriad states of play, rest, love and hilarity. You'll have regular updates and pics to remind you how lucky you are to be returning home.

Gus is a fabulous sitter, very conscientious, totally reliable. He deploys the common sense, flexibility and effortless pragmatism honed from a rich and varied life experience and a plethora of successful sittings. Our fur babies took to him instantly and he exuded a genuine affection for them both. Having such a kind and experienced sitter ensures you can totally relax whilst away knowing your cherished pets are in safe and genuinely loving hands. We are thrilled to have made a new friend and wholeheartedly and unreservedly commend him.

Honestly, where to start! We can't recommend Gus highly enough. He's an exceptional dog sitter. From the outset, Gus' focus was entirely on Mungo, taking his time to understand him and making him feel comfortable before following all his cues and diving in with all the love and care that Mungo loves from his humans. We were particularly grateful for how he navigated a challenging incident between Mungo and another dog, demonstrating a deep level of care and maturity. Gus was fantastic at keeping us informed with regular, delightful updates about Mungo's daily escapades and well-being. It was clear he wasn't just watching Mungo; he was truly engaging with him, being curious and excited about all of Mungo's unique characteristics. What truly stood out was the genuine bond Gus formed with Mungo, and honestly, with us too! He's a truly kind-hearted, generous, and open person, and we feel incredibly lucky to have found him. Mungo misses him already, and so do we!

Gus was completely wonderful. From the first contact where we chatted online, about a month before he came down, he came across as a genuinely nice and kind man. The dogs took to him immediately. Well, Alfie did, Dory takes a bit more time to warm up. But Gus won her over pretty quickly. I was away for just over 2 weeks, which is quite a long time for me. I was able to concentrate on work while away and was not at all worried about the dogs. I got daily photos and videos, them both playing in the park, on long walks up on the downs, and lots of videos of cuddles in the evening time. Both Dory and Alfie always looked perfectly relaxed with Gus. When I came home, after the initial excitement of seeing me, Dory even went back for a cuddle with Gus, as though she knew he would be leaving and didn't want him to! My house was exactly as I left it when I came home, Gus made me a delicious breakfast before he left, and all in all, I couldn't have been happier. Gus is already booked in again for another sit later in the year. 5 star, would recommend to everyone!

After reading Gus' profile, we knew he would be the perfect sitter for Mr Pesto. He is such a kind, caring & calm person and so considerate, not only to us with keeping the place clean and tidy, but more importantly looking after our boy. At the beginning, he made the effort to make Mr Pesto comfortable with him so wherever Mr Pesto was, he'd sit in the same room so he got used to him and judging from the messages and pictures we received, they became firm friends very quickly which was lovely for us to see. We felt so very comfortable and content that he was being looked after properly. He got into a little scrap with another cat, and Gus informed us immediately and was prepared to take him to the vets if need be. Fortunately, with some TLC and antibacterial wipes, he was fine within a few days. Although we were concerned, we had no qualms as we knew he was in safe, capable hands. We came home to all the towels and bedding washed and dried, a fridge full of food, and a meal ready for us. We cannot thank Gus enough for his kindness and generosity shown to us all. Mr Pesto definitely misses him, and we've adopted a weekly "Gus" treat of mackerel, so he's still remembered 😻 We would welcome seeing Gus again, if he was passing by, to pop in for a cuppa and catch up or to look after Mr Pesto again. If you're fortunate enough to have Gus look after your pets, they will be in safe hands. We couldn't recommend him highly enough, he seems to have a natural affinity with animals, so very kind and caring and as a person he's also a fascinating and interesting man. Thank you, Gus, from us all, Jan, Chris & Mr Pesto xx 🐾😻

August came to sit for me in September last year whilst I was away for 5 weeks visiting family in Australia and New Zealand. I returned from my trip to find my two pugs, Winnie and Frankie, happy, healthy, and clearly very well cared for. My home was spotless, the fridge was fully stocked and to top it all off, August had even prepared lunch for my return. While I was away, August kept me updated regularly with messages and photos, which made being apart from my dogs much easier. It was obvious from the updates that he gave them plenty of love, attention and exercise—and he even handled an unexpected vet visit with care and competence. Winnie and Frankie clearly adored him and I think it’s safe to say he grew quite fond of them too. ❤️ August is incredibly trustworthy and genuine and he treated both my home and my dogs as if they were his own. My neighbours also commented on what a lovely person he is. I would wholeheartedly recommend Gus to anyone looking for a kind, reliable, and loving caregiver for their beloved pets.

Schedule

My writing, studies and occasional freelance research work are all completed online, so my time and geographical location can be flexible according to your needs. Essentially, I try to remain as flexible as can be! Having said that, I travel the country doing this work and will always prioritise longer durations, 1-week+. I will be relocating semi-permanently in Bristol, Brighton or London in 2026, so opportunities in these places will likely pique my interest for 2025. My rates are negotiable for longer sits! Let's talk!
