Information Ashton A. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know what motivates the dog- is it toys? treats? affection? verbal praise? What are the dog's primary cues? Are they hand cues? Are they verbal cues? Are they both? Is the dog reactive? If so, to what? Is the dog afraid of anything? Is there anything that you would like me to work with behavior/training wise with your dog?

A typical day

I like to focus on enriching pets’ environments. That can look like putting on a show (one of my dogs loves the animated 101 Dalmatians), taking them on a walk where they get to smell everything, and training (if owner approved). I think it’s important to read the pets’ needs and go from there.

Pet care experience

My availability is Friday and Saturday for drop ins and walks. I can be more flexible with dog sitting days as long as your pets are okay being at home for 9 hours while I am at work. On Thursdays starting in January 2025, I will be unavailable during the day from 7:30a-8:30p for work. I have two dogs (the brindle shepherd and the Australian shepherd) and two cats, all of whom I love very much. I have a bachelor’s degree in Animal Behavior from Indiana University where I started a student organization that works with service dogs called "ICAN at IU". My experiences with dogs ranges in age (I got my dog as a 4 month old puppy and had a dog until he was 14 when I was growing up), size (my parents own a 7 pound dog and a 120 pound dog), and breed (I have had a shepherd, lab/husky, great dane and shitzu). I obviously love animals, as that is what my degree is catered to, and would love to get to know your pets. I also have experience with other species of animals (such as cats, reptiles, and birds) from my current work experience as a zookeeper at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and former experience as a veterinary assistant. I am confident that I can provide quality care for your pets while you are away. Please let me know if there is anything else that you would like to know about me!

Please read previous reviews I've posted about Ashton's caring for my two "kiddos" Winston and Gracie. More than anything, I trust, and have confidence, she will take care of my dogs, perhaps, "better than I do!" Dependable, on time, sends pictures, communicates issues etc. This last session as I was out of country for three weeks, one of my dogs became sick. Ashton handled the situation expeditiously, and resolved the issue in a timely fashion. Five Stars!

I highly recommend Ashton as a pet sitter! I could not have found a better care taker for my two Siberian kittens. I was so happy that I entrusted her with my 10 week old kitten and her 9 month old sibling. We went on a Mexico vacation and we needed and overnight sitter, and found her on Rover. I felt that my Siberian kittens were so well taken care of, respected, and treated with such kind and loving care. Prior to her stay with them, they were having conflict with one another as they were still adjusting to living together. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had become more calm with one another, as well as warm and open towards me when I had arrived home. Ashton is truly an animal expert- with her zoo keeping background, understanding of how animals communicate and bond, along with her compassion and patience, it all lends to her ability to bring pets to a place of being their absolute best. I could not thank her enough for her high quality work with my pets!
