Pet care experience

Your favorite pet's favorite sitter

I've raised a beloved 16-year old mutt of my own in addition to having 10+ years' experience fostering and volunteering with dog rescue organizations. Throughout fostering and pet sitting, I've hosted pups of all ages, sizes, and abilities (e.g., blind, tripod, recovering from surgeries, etc.) and have training in dog behavior and socialization. Awarded "Foster Home of the Year" in 2016 by renowned Chicago animal rescue One Tail at a Time. ***July 2026: Rover recently DOUBLED the cut they take from my bookings so I had to raise my rates. As a long-time single pet owner myself, I've always tried to keep my rates approachable. Please get in touch if cost is a barrier, I can make adjustments on case by case basis. I will still only accept one boarding/daycare booking at a time, not about to start warehousing dogs that don't know each other to make up the difference!***

April is seriously a gem. She has been so kind and patient with my dogs. I was so nervous to start this process on Rover but I am so glad I found her. Not only has she been so caring, but you can just tell how much she loves what she does and goes above and beyond. Thank you so much April!!

April was absolutely wonderful with our cat, Mable! We only asked her to stop by once a day, but she went above and beyond every single visit. She spent extra time with Mable, stayed to keep her company, and was so kind and attentive. She even surprised Mable with a few new toys to play with while we were away, which was such an incredibly thoughtful gesture that she absolutely didn’t have to do. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing Mable was not only being cared for but genuinely loved while we were gone. We could tell April truly cares about the pets she watches, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, compassionate, and willing to go the extra mile. We’ll definitely be booking with her again!

April was amazing with Korra! She had such a fun time and was clearly so loved during her stay. We got pictures and updates everyday. Again, could clearly see how much fun she was having! This was Korra first 4th of July as well, so we weren’t sure how she was going to react to the fireworks. April did an amazing job at letting us know what she had planned and how she was going to create a safe and calm environment for the dogs. We got pictures and updates on how she was doing/did. I am so glad Korra spent her first fireworks season with April. She was so well cared for. I could not recommend April more. She has so much love and care for her own dogs that she shares with other dogs. Korra is so happy to be apart of Petey’s and Shawna’s friend group!

We went on a week long vacation with our dog in April’s care. We always knew our pet was cared for and loved. April did an excellent job updating us with pics and status updates. I’m pretty sure our dog had a better time than we did! We will 100% have April watch our pet next time!

What a find! April had such a gentle nature. She and her dogs quickly won over my clingy Princess. She had a great time and came home tired from all the fun. A great experience!

Schedule

As of April 2026, I am on sabbatical from my day job so I am wide open for pet sitting! My partner Ryan works full time out of the house but he may also be present (dogs love him).

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in a house
Has a fenced yard
Non-smoking household
Has 1 dog
No children present
Dogs allowed on bed
Dogs allowed on furniture
Potty breaks every 0-2 hours

Safety, trust & environment

I am a homebody and happy to stay in and snuggle with dogs that have separation anxiety and/or don't do well in public settings. My own dog is old and very used to having other dogs around if yours would like a buddy while you're away (a lot of solo dogs benefit from this!) For housesitting, no other human or pet will enter your home without your express permission.

Do they have a specific feeding/walking schedule; are they allowed on furniture in their home; are they sensitive/allergic to any foods so I can provide appropriate treats; what skills, if any, can I help reinforce while I am watching them? (e.g., a trick you are working on, or a behavior you are trying to nip.) Do they like being handled/picked up? Do they have any sensitive areas I should avoid? (e.g., my big dog has arthritis so I am careful with his hips.) Where do they usually sleep?
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
