I am a freelance writer and work only part-time from home, so I have an abundance of time to be fully in the moment with your pets and provide them quality care, supervision, and one-on-one attention. I have a wonderful husband who loves animals and 16-year old son (who also adores animals), and a 20-year-old son studying at Chapel Hill, who helps me with the dogs in my care when he is home for the summer and on breaks. Currently, I have a wonderful, small group of regular dogs who come for daycare most days of the week. I always make sure prospective dogs are a good fit with the group to ensure safety and an optimal experience for all the dogs. We love meeting new dogs and welcome having new playmates here at "Camp Dewdog." These guys have so much fun here, romp around the yard, hide in the shrubery, zoom around the porch, and go on walks in our Montford neighborhood to see the goats and chickens down the street or to the Reed's Creek Greenway, or Hummingbird Park. There's never a dull moment here, except when the pups are sacked out on our porch swing bed or lounging in the house on the sheepskin rugs.

Safety, trust & environment
Your pets will be cared for with the same dedication and attentiveness as with my own pets. Dogs can either roam and lounge in our large Victorian home or frolic in our lush fenced yard and porch. Montford is also a lovely neighborhood to go on walks with dogs, with lots of parks nearby, resident goats and chickens down the street at our friends' house, and Reed's Creek Greenway just around the corner.

Information April C. would like to know about your pet
I can give medication, steer around dogs with special needs, maintain diaper wearing, snuggle for long periods of time, or any other need your pet may have.
A typical day
A typical day with your pets will depend on their needs. If they are high energy dogs, I'll take them on long walks and engage in rambunctious play. If they are old or have special needs, I'll adapt the day to their needs. I always ensure that the dogs in my care are getting along. If there's a spat, I'll separate or redirect them until they're able to play or hang out safely and joyfully again. We love to go on walks around the neighborhood to the local parks and to see our neighbor's goats and chickens, which is always a hit activity with the dogs. We have resting times where dogs have plush beds, furry rugs, and even a porch swing bed to lounge on. We always have plenty of fresh, filtered water on hand for all to rehydrate whenever they need. My two sons and husband often help me walk the dogs. Sometimes I'll take especially energetic dogs on hikes in the woods.

Pet care experience
I believe that pets deserve an abundance of respect and understanding, as well as optimal attention and care. In general, I tend to feel more comfortable around dogs and cats than people and treat them all with dignity, respect, and love. I have had decades of experience with a variety of pets, from blind pugs to anxious mutts to timid cats and everything in between. I believe pets must be addressed on their own level and met where they are. As a middle-aged woman with many responsibilities and experiences, I am adept at managing a wide variety of pet tasks with conscientiousness and skill. You can be confident that your dogs and cats will be in safe and loving hands with me while you are away.
Reviews

April and her husband were phenomenal substitute parents for my Gracie. Not only did I really bond with them, but I could tell from the moment we all met to the moment I said goodbye with my girl in tow, Gracie loved her stay - you just know these things. As of writing this in late June, 2026 they have the most adorable black lab puppy, Roxy, who's as sedate for a 2-month old as you can imagine, the sweet thing. They have a gorgeous enormous house in Montford with ample space outside (including fenced in space) ... it was just so soothing and comforting to know she'd be loved and comfortable while I was away. So 2-thumbs up on these folks - wonderful people wonderful experience.

April made Keely feel right at home. She is amazing and would recommend her anytime you need a sitter.

Rumi had another amazing adventure day with April and her family. The pictures meant the world to me and she came home a happy pup.

Rumi was taken care of beautifully. She’s so happy when she comes home from this house.
